UPDATE: BAD NEWS, THE RABBIT IS TERMINAL. THE RODS SOUND LOOSE. SO...I PICKED UP AN 84 SCIROCCO. "PLAN A" REMOVE 5-SPEED AND 1.8 ENGINE FROM SCIROCCO AND TRANSPLANT TO RABBIT. THEN PART OUT THE POOR ROCCO.

UPDATE: SO I'M OFF TO WORK IN THE RABBIT WHEN I START TO HEAR A RATTLE GETTING LOUDER AND LOUDER...I TURN DOWN THE RADIO AND BAM...YEAH...THATS THE CONNECTING ROD AFTER IT SHOT THROUGH THE SIDE OF THE BLOCK. I COULDN'T SEE THE ROD RIGHT AWAY BECAUSE NORMALLY THATS WHERE MY WATER PUMP WOULD BE....AS THE ROD SHOT OUT IT KARATE CHOPED MY PUMP IN HALF. "PLAN B" OLD MOTORS ARE NOT TO BE MESSED WITH...ROCCO BECOMES THE DAILY DRIVER....AND LOOK FOR ANOTHER ENGINE TO REBUILD.
THIS IS MY FRIEND SANDERS "RIGHT"AND HIS CHEVY-LOVING NEIGHBOR"LEFT"....SANDERS SAYS HE HAS A REBUILT GTI MOTOR THAT WILL TURN MY RABBIT FROM....

UPDATE: AFTER A BIT OF PHONE TAG WITH SANDERS, I MENTION I HAVE A SCIROCCO AND WOULD HATE TO PART IT OUT...."SO WE MADE A DEAL" ROCCO FOR THE ENGINE. SANDERS EVEN OFFERED TO HELP INSTALL THE ENGINE. HE DOES THEM ALL THE TIME. THE MOTOR WOULD TAKE A FEW HOURS TO BOLT UP AND DROP IN "HE SAYS".

UPDATE ON THE "FEW HOUR SWAP": DAY 2 OF THE ENGINE SWAP...IT TURNS OUT WE HAD TO REPLACE ALOT OF SEALS AND STRIPPED OR OLD BOLTS ON THIS THIRTY YEAR OLD RELIC. THANK GOD SANDERS HAPPENS TO HAVE A STOCKPILE OF ALMOST EVERY RARE VW PART EVER MADE. HE ALSO HAD POLYURETHANE MOUNTS...WHICH I BOUGHT FROM HIM.
