Few pics of my 70 Beetle, looking forward to picking it up soon. Weather out here in IL has been pretty nasty as well in WI and MN. I have to go to MN to pick it up. Driving through a nasty blizzard with -40 in my 68 plymouth Valiant where the heat was just on the windshield to keep it from icing up on the inside and outside. Last time when i paid the beetle off on the way back there was a freezing rain storm so no beetle again. This time i figure i'll tow it back just need to go on a decent weekend and drive there and come right back!! lol!

Got the bug back on the 3rd last weekend of Jan! Ordered a headliner, sound deadening material, bows, along with some window scrapers and seals. Next to order is the material to glue onto the headliner. To create a custom headliner of my own that will look solid enough.
Sun Feb 15 decided to work on the horn and wire it up. well something went wrong in the setup, now the darn thing wont start. Thinking about taking it to the shop again and have them rewire the whole thing since the wires were all brittle and looked original. That and its a rat nest under the trunk. I'd like to be able to have things labeled out, that way i don't have to trace down things. Ugh, just another set back but i might be pickin up a 2nd one with a 2400cc engine, lol! Can you say summer car with that one!
March 16th, 09: Cancelled the idea of the 2nd bug with the 2400cc engine, things more work than i need right now. I had the clutch rebuilt and trans seal and rear engine seal replaced last week. Put the extensions in for the deck lid to come off. Runs a little quicker now for a stock 1600 single port. Looking to get a dual port engine block and build it up from my current and newer parts. Working on the interior: installed some sound deadening material on the ceiling. Waiting for it to warm up a little more before i install the custom headliner that I will be doing myself.
Found out where the water leak was coming in from, theres a whole in the heater channel on the passenger side rear. Looking into purchasing both complete heaters channels and have my neighbor weld them in along with the luggage compartment shelf theres several holes in that also. Next step is to replace the window seals on the rear three windows.
April 15th, 09: Had to remove the engine, its pretty much shot and stripped threads on one of the spark plugs and some other threads farther down. Looks like i'll be doing some interior work soon since its supposed to be nice and warm this weekend! Going to sand the inside down and repaint it. Not sure what color but something solid to go with the custom interior.
Anyone familiar with Strictly Foreign VW engines if their good?
9/24/09 Picked up a new engine, got to tune it up and stick her in. See if it'll start or not. If not I got extra engine parts. If that happens figure i'll just buy a rebuilt long block from Mid America Motorworks. Sits in the backyard and waiting to be worked on.
Leaving tonight for CA for a mini weekend vacation. Some skateboarding the combi pool at Vans in Orange on Friday night. Can't wait to catch up with some friends there. Maybe go over to Vee Dub Parts Unlimited in Huntington Beach see if theres anything good there to get and bring back with me.
10/15/09 Ordered and received my EMPI transmission mounts for my bug last week. Hopefully i'll get those in at least this weekend. Then get the engine in and tune it up. Next thing to save up for it is a complete wire harness kit. Also added some pics of it without the engine in it.

If your into hot rods or have an old school bug that you want to turn into a hot rod or what not. Check out www.volksrods.com. They have some cool stuff on there, if you sign up for it make sure you post an intro or introduction for new members area, they kind of throw a hissy fit on that, lol!
Pics of the new rear seals after installation.

10/29/09 Installed the new window seals, have to go and pick up a new windshield from a guy i found on craigslist cause my original one spider cracked when i was removing it.
10/30/09 Picked up the new windshield, also grabbed two rear fenders to replace the rusted out ones. Got the seal on the glass, probably will stick it in Monday evening. Unless I have a hot date. Debating if i want to replace the vent windows and front door glass with a one piece kit. Im going to replace the door seals soon too. But i want to get the new wire harness before anything.
11/13/09 Looks like tomorrow i"ll be able to get the front window in, transmission mounts in, weld in the new complete passenger side heater channel and maybe get my engine in and tune it up. See what happens...
2/11/10 Ended up trading my 70 VW bug evenly for a 1981 Honda Goldwing Interstate GL1100cc motorcycle.
