Been a LONG time since I've made any real updates or progress on this... but rest assured, it will be back on the road soon. Most of the pictures on here are at least a year old by now, since it's been off the road since July 2008.
This has become an obsession of sorts in my life... I might as well be married to this thing! =P
Used to be 7m, but after a BHG, rod knock (see here for why haha: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71zzrm3xfjk ), and a pretty beat up 7m inspection, I've decided to move on to the 2j world. Currently in the process of saving up money, should have my motor ordered by the end of February 2009. =D
(Again, old plans above. Ended up getting a 1j. So far, so good, I like it from an engineering standpoint. Eventually I'll update things and add a bit of new info on it, but for now... keeping those things to myself.)
It's been a fun car as a 7m (oh, that beautiful sound...), but I have a few ideas up my sleeve. Sadly, this car has only ran for about 3 months that I've owned it (about 10 months as of January 2009), and will have been about 15-18 months before I start it the next time... But it will all be worth it in the end.
Well, onto the pictures! Some by Chris B, some by David Halter, and some by me, enjoy!
What a Supra looks like before you buy it...
What a Supra looks like after you buy it... in the process of getting tinted here.
Took the interior apart to clean it all out, and look what I found!
There were 3 seat belts in the back of a car that only seats 2 people in the back... SOMEBODY was dedicated to make their Supra a family car! =P
Never took more recent pictures, but I got the rest of the hatch interior put back together :)
Old radiator, about 1.5" core, steel...
New radiator, about 2.25" core, aluminum. PWR is a thing of beauty.
They're not cheap, but a very wise investment for a Supra if you want to keep your temerature under control. Also makes a good tool tray (which you'll need if you have one of these haha) ;)
Rust on the water pump? Uh oh...
Man, these things get dirty after 20 years of 7m life.
WTF? Electrical tape? To cover up a hole in the intake hose where the stock BOV goes?
Seriously, TAPE?! Ugh...
Rubber cap. That's better. :)
Oops... Good ol' brittle rubber hoses...
Stock downpipe (top, obviously) versus BIC Divorced Downpipe.
I can see the improvement, you?
Hence, the 'divorced' in the name ;)
EWW. Not even joking when I say you'll see upwards of 30+hp after swapping these out for the BIC.
Man, I joke that this thing is costing me an arm and a leg, but c'mon...
Added an Adam-charger, picked up like 430hp out of that one. It's the hair =P
Swapped out the stock CT26 for a 57 trim CT26. Lost a bit of spool time, but gained a bit more power...
Dirty dirty... Actually, this was using a camera to see what was down there so I could connect an oil pickup in the right place. Gotta love working where you can't see!
That thing is a MAJOR pain in the ass when it rusts away. ONLY run distilled water in your cooling system, do NOT use tap water, or things like this happen over time =(
Uh oh... BHG?
Clint and Mike, helping to find out... Oh, and we didn't have a pry bar handy, so the shovel had to do. Worked pretty well actually...
Anybody guess why Mike is smiling so much?
Hmm, good so far...
Not looking good...
Gee, I wonder if the head gasket went on me? =P
That's not good...
This would be Clint's "that's not good man..." face.
THAT... would be water in the oil. Not good if you see that when you drain your oil people...
I ordered the plate about 2 weeks before the BHG, and it comes in the day after it blew... Irony. Gotta love it. =/
Cometic... Ferrea... ARP... Hose Techniques... Toyota... Good stuff.
+1mm valves ;)
Block is prepped and ready to be reassembled...
You can always tell when something has been rebuilt...
Mmmm... lunch and a fuel rail!
My workbench...
Remember that nasty nipple on the back of the head? Got a new one...
Example of why you don't run tap water on a cooling system...
Old plate...
New plate. Matches the paint, huh?
All the trash after the repairs...
Tyler and Clint, setting the timing (Tyler is a GOD at doing this on 7m's).
The TSRM also makes a good table...
That red, where it has the funnel behind it... I kinda like the color. Almost a blood red with a lot of shine in it. Might paint my car that color someday...
Left a bit of the oil/coolant milkshake in the pan for a few weeks... Yum.
Easiest way to get to the oil filter, around the motor mount from underneath, between the mount and the firewall ;)
Original miles... not a whole lot more right now either. I think it's just barely over 101k.
Supra repair motto: Fix it, then do a burnout. =P
Ooohh... That's NOT good.
Poor crank... it's scored more than Dr J...
You spin me right round round...
OUCH.
Following pictures taken by David Halter:
Mine (Super Red) and Clint's (Pearl Black Mica) cars...
Goin' separate ways...
End of the road =/
4x4 Supra? Love the stance...
KIT??? o.O
Arizona sunsets...
That's it... for now. ;)
