67elcaminotyler's 1967 Chevrolet El Camino

I recently bought a 1967 El Camino for $1500.  It came with about $800 in spare parts.  It was a New Mexico car.  We had a hail storm this summer and the front and rear windows were knocked out.  It has minor surface rust, but needs to be repainted.  It has a 400 small block in it with a new edlebrock carb.  I am waiting for the snow to melt, since I live in south-west Wisconsin, to get some pictures on here.  I am 14 and this is my first car.  I plan to pay for it all and have it running by the time I am 16.1/15/09 11:38 AM CST

Weather isn't getting any better here. Temps in -10 everyday almost.  Hope it warms up soon.  I can't wait to get it home. 1/29/09 7:09 AM CST

Went to look at car again now that the snow has almost melted.  Original color is Blue.  Found receipts in glove box.  New Carburator and intake parts valued at $1100.  The car has A/C and the guy I'm buying it from has the back window for it that was missing.  The radiator has been replaced in the last 10 years and has a new fan from what I can tell. It also has air shocks in the back.  It has a brand new Accel ignition.  My first estimated guess was $800 in spare parts, but after being back today and looking at them again and being the guy found some more spare parts, my new estimated price of these used and new parts are $1400+.  The guy has many more parts stored some where and will let me know if he finds anymore.  After much thought and consideration I am going to keep the motor that is in there and get it running.  I was originaly going to put the original 327 in it, but after seeing all the stuff the previous owner had put in it I'm just going to leave it.  I am going to put a 4-speed manual in it though.  My uncle has one out of a 78 or 79 Camero.  I am not sure if the rear end is a posi or not.  My goal is to get it home by the first week in March.  I still couldn't get any pictures because of the snow that is still on the car, I couldn't get very good pictures.  The tailgate is the only thing I noticed would have to be replaced, besides the windshield.  The tailgate is filled with bondo and really dinged up. Hope to get it home and pictures on here really soon.  2/20/09 1:32 PM CST

I plan to do black for the interior (door panels, carpet, seat covers). I plan to have it mostly installed by the end of next week. Also, on your trim tag, I think that is a DD, as there is not paint code for "OO".

Ah, the pics have arrived!! Looks like an awesome project. That looks much more solid than the pile of rust and filler I started on. I painted my elco the Marina Blue color (my fender tag lists FF code) Its just a shade darker than the Nantucket blue for the same year. I got my paint from TCP Global, it was actually pretty cheap but good quality. It would have looked even better if I had more practice, but this is the first ride I have ever painted, so I am happy with it. Keep me posted on the progress!!

Thanks for the comment on my 67. Looking forward to seeing some pics of yours! I havent installed the American Autowire harness yet, but from what I have read and heard, they are THE best around without question. They are better in many ways than the oem harness, and lower cost. They are also more comprehensive than painless kits as you get pretty much everything you need front to back including new switches, sockets, connectors, ect. to replace all the old stuff. With painless you have to re-use your old switches sockets/connectors ect. I will let you know when I wire my elco. I plan to start on it in about three weeks.
