This is a very rare 1972 Plymouth Road Runner/GTX. Recently completed full rotisserie restoration. 1971 was the last year for the GTX as a standalone model in Plymouth’s line-up. For 72-74’ any Road Runner ordered with a 440 was deemed a “Road Runner/GTX”, approximately 672 Road Runner/GTXs were built in 1972. Along with “GTX” badges the car received additional body reinforcements (Torque boxes) and for the 4-speed cars, it was the last year for the Dana 60 rear axle.

When I bought the car it had a non-numbers matching drivetrain and was missing the build sheet (later found chewed up/unreadable and part of a rodents nest under the console). Perfect candidate for what I wanted to do, build it the way I wanted it from the ground up. My plan was for a few factory appearing or period correct exterior modifications and some modern mechanical upgrades. This car was originally Tor Red (EV2), now Winchester Gray Poly(GA4). The automatic transmission needed to make way for a modern 5-speed, I had to have that overdrive for all the cruising I plan to do. Wilwood disc brakes all the way around. Sub frame connectors were added to stiffen up the unibody. Upgrades to the suspension include SS tubular upper control arms, reinforcement plates on the lower control arms, up-sized sway, strut, torsion bars, and KYB gas shocks.

Changes to the exterior included the addition of an "Air Grabber" hood and related componets. This car is factory air conditioned and the original R12 A/C compressor interfered with the Air Grabber under hood components. You couldn’t order the car new with both in 72'. The upgrade to R134a based A/C includes a smaller rotary compressor allowing for the Air Grabber retrofit.

Interior mods include; converting over to power windows and door locks. Modifying the original radio to have modern electronic functions yet appear somewhat period correct. As well, the addition of a contemporary anti-theft/tracking and security system.
