Update 9/29/11 - So, I decided to start a little early on refinishing the trunk. I can still drive the car, when the weather is nice, but I really hate leaf guts plastered to the paint, so I think I'm putting her away a little earlier this year. Still to be determined. I can't fiberglass in my garage when it gets cold and living with roommates cuts down on bringing the smell in doors... so I'll have to use the time that I have with the warm weather still here, to get some things done. The trunk is empty, dismantled it last night (9/28/11). I am now in need of a spot-weld cutting bit, I'll have to pick one up. That Spare tire mount has to go! This will be the new home for my Air Tank. After I get things cleaned up, I'll begin working on the tire well for mounting the Air Tank. Then it's on to fiberglassing the floor and surrounding areas. I want it to look really nice and clean, without the interference of wasted trunk space. Not being able to carry my tools with me is ticking me off! Never know when you're going to break down! Update 10/17/11 - I have been working on the trunk here and there. Not too many pictures have been taken, but only prefitting things at this point to make sure everything will work. I'll be taking everythign back apart, once I have things where I want them.... then I'll take pictures as everything gets installed more permanantly. No fiberglassing at this point. I decided that it would be a big PITA to do the whole floor, without some kind of frame. So right now, I'm using the floor I previously had as a test fit for now. Once I have everything where I want it, I'll go back and decide if fiberglass is really worth the time and money. If the finished product comes out nice, I'll probably skip the FG all together. The floor has been lifted 2" to clear the top of the tank sitting in the tire well. I just used a couple pieces of wood as stilts on the bottom of the floor pieces, to raise them. I also cut a whole in the floor piece for the filler stem, so once that's completed, I'll post the pictures so it all makes more sense. I also got the compressor to sit in the tire well! So now that won't be making so much noise inside the car when it's running. I never used to be able to take advantage of the drain plug (petcock) because the tank sat inside the trunk on the floor... so I've gona ahead and cut a whole in the floor for that to pop through to the outside. I'll be able to keep up on draining the air out of the tank so it doesn't rust things like it had been. Last thing I need are parts rusting out because of condensation! UPDATE!! 10/19/11 - I've finally got some pics of how the trunk has been coming along. Haven't been able to work on it the last couple days, family things... but that's a good thing some times. So, here is a sneak peak of how the floor and Compressor came out. It's not completed, just mocking things up. Once it's done, you probably won't be able to see the tank as the whole trunk is going to be painted black with some truck bedliner spray. Depending how that comes out, I may be spraying a lot more stuff with it. It's durable and lasts along time if done right. The tank just might get it's own coat!
