Regal Estate Wagon
Here is a rarity - a clean, stock and somewhat rare 1983 Regal wagon. The mid-size wagons were only made by Buick from 1980-1983. Needless to say, station wagons are generally treated as work horses and thus are fairly well abused. This white with red guts model is very well preserved thanks to owners who took the time to care for their car. I was told it has come to the Northwest by way of Canada, but it doesn't have the KM/H speedometer (I had an '86 T-Type Canadian model and the speedometer is switched from the US version). Also I didn't know what to list this as - a Regal or an Estate Wagon. Technically it is both, but generally speaking the Estate Wagons mean it is the full-size model so I set it as a Regal.
The most amazing part about this bucket is the interior is amazingly clean! I was very happy about that because most cars I've ever owned have at least worn carpets, holes and tears in seats or some other defect that requires major attention. It's not totally perfect, though, as the cheap glue they used in the early '80s has disintegrated and the headliner is held up with a couple dozen thumb tacks (not my idea!). Soon I hope to replace the speakers and properly re-attach the headliner.
The drivetrain seems solid enough for an '83 GM. It has the ubiquitous V-6 found on every other vehicle in the world but needs to be tuned up. It has been freshened up with new plugs, fluids, filters, etc. The transmission seems competent enough (although no overdrive really sucks!) and unfortunately the rear end is an open design. I was disappointed because I figured a station wagon has a very good chance of having a limited-slip for towing. This car has the small hitch but I have not yet determined whether that is stock or an add-on. I want to get a bike rack that fits on there and holds them perpendicular to the tailgate - those are so cool!
Someday the entire drivetrain will be replaced with a heavily modified 3.8L turbo V-6, built 2004R and limited-slip 10-bolt rear end. Like Brian's outstanding '83 black wagon seen below:
