1994 Volvo 940 Station Wagon
This splendid Swedish jewel has been our family car ever since we returned to Canada in 2000 and has served us reliably.
The engine is comfortably underpowered and putters like an old singer sewing machine rather than roaring like a bat straight out of hell.
No modifications have ever been made to it besides the two right hubcaps and despite the car's age it handles marvelously and never leaves us stranded.
Two summers ago, it lost its title of "family car" to a 960 station wagon and is currently used primarily (by me) for taking the bus or lending to anyone whose car is in for repairs.
The 940 station wagon has got to be one of the most underated cars of all time, not because it's revolutionary, but simply because it's a great all around vehicle with predictable handling, an immortal engine, orthapedic seats, legendary safety, suitable performance and a lovely design both inside and out. It's not outlandish like a super car, or ugly like a single-party state people's car, it's sensible motoring at its finest.
