Based on what I have learned from previous owner, this car had been in storage for a while and I am the second owner. Pat and I have talked a few times since I bought the car and I found out that his dad, his brother and him ordered the kit from Bremen Sports Equipment in Bremen, Indiana and built this car in 1977. Pat remembers the Indiana "Blizzard of 1978" very well because he drove the car back to college in April 1978 and there was still snow on the side of the roads. Pat gave me a copy of the original "Maxi Taxi Installation Instructions" which I have scanned and created a pdf file that I have emailed to other Maxi Taxi owners.

The body was oxidated very badly when I bought the car. Several treatments with a special cleaner/wax for fiberglass called "Gel-Gloss" is bringing it back to life. I highly recommend the product if you are trying to restore fiberglass. It can be purchased at hardware stores and I have found it at a Rural King store.

These pictures were taken in late 2008 after 1st cleanup of the car.

These pictures were taken June 2009 after all screws snaps & fittings had been replaced, new engine was installed, new rims & tires, and the entire car was "Clay Bar" and cleaner waxed to remove final oxidation out of the gel coat. Car was cleaned and prepped for its 1st car show.

July 8, 2009: Burgess Plating of Indianapolis, Indiana has completed the chrome plating of the front & rear bumpers. They did a great job of stripping & replating the chrome bumpers as shown in the last picture #4 versus the picture #3.

Hi, My husband bought a Maxi Taxi Body last January and now he's starting to work on putting it on a 1972 VW. If you could forward the installation instructions that would be a great help to him. We will post photos when we finish the car. Can't wait to take it for a ride next spring.

Looks good, my husband just got a dune buggy yesterday. We took it for a test drive last night and it managed to make it home (after we pulled off the road three times!) I am jealous, ours didn't come with a top so I am going to have to make one. I am going to try the fiberglass stuff you mentioned, our is a little dull looking. Ours has a lot of metal flake so we might have to put a coat of clear on it.
