1996: In Her Original State, Dead stock. A Little Rust in the trunk floor, C Pillars and Rear guards, Tidy Interior.
First Things First, Remove those aweful pesky door handles and weld up the holes. AUTOLOC remote solenoids and door poppers are installed in each door. The Antenna and trunk badges were also shaved.
Trunk Repair and basic audio installation: Few holes in trunk floor repaired and undersealed. Lined in MDF with 12 inch Subwoofer and Amplifier. Fibreglass parcel shelf with speakers moulded in.
Replaced the newer style 1973 Steering wheel with the older style one from a 1969: Looks MUCH Better
All Trim and glass was removed. Started sanding and found a huge amount of bog (That's Bondo to you Yanks!) under the crazy-cracked paint on the upper guards, trunk and hood. This was all removed, sanded and primed ready for a panelbeating.
In for some more sanding and another prime after the final panelbeating.
In the Paint booth, Doors, Trunk and Hood Removed
Right after the paint dried.... Finally shiny!
The factory stainless wheel covers have been paint-stripped, and will be retained on the original steel wheels. Some Whitewall tyres, and lowering the car by a couple of inches will follow.
Most of the re-assembly done, Still a few cosmetic pieces to replace, but it was a sunny day, and thought I would snap a few off. December 2008.
Keep and eye on it for the final touches over the next few months.
