Ok I am going to start a page for my 1971 Dodge Charger R/T

6-30-09 Well i took the charger out for the first time in about a year, Hope to get more work and pics in the next couple weeks. I finally added electronic distributor to go with my jacobs setup. I plan on putting a set of headers on the car this summer. Since i dont plan to selling it anyu time soom i will go with headers and keep stock manifolds on the shelf with the stock heads and intake and carb. I need to go to more cruise nightsa and car shows it motivates me to work on the cars.

It is an original fc7 plum crazy purple car not to many option with this one. and had a black vinyl top with stripes 440 engine 370 hp 4bbl. i will add the build sheet on one of the pages.

It got the devil name because one day i gunned it down my buddy's street and the car is loud and flew by his house his reatives were out there and one of them was a religous person and said " that was the devil itself right there" thought it was funny so my friend calls it the devil now. i just call it the charger.

I bought the car in 1993, I was originally trying to buy a 1970 plymouth Cuda' 340 manual transmission. The cuda was on a car lot in Santa barbara And was pretty much a bait car to get people on the lot they wanted 3600. for it. It was a good deal needed work on the transmission. Well i had the money the dealer gave me the run around saying i needed this and i needed that. I met everything he needed and when all was said and done he told me the owner didnt want to sell. A bunch of bull crap because the car sat on the lot for 6 months with the same price on it. I would go back from time to time to harass the idiot at the lot and ask why the car was still there. He said the owner was out of state and hadnt picked it up. i asked why the price was still on it. no answer so i turned them in to the better business berau. I guess i wasnt the only one.

A few months later the lot was gone car and all. dont no what happend to them. So i had all this money, it was a lot of money for me at the time and i was itching to buy a car. there were a few cars i was looking at. a 68 nova, a 68 charger and a buick grand national. Ok the nova was a piece of crap in person, the 68 charger was nice but had a lot of bondo, the grand national sold to quick.

There was an older guy in town with this strange mopar that was loud and idled rough, sounded good. I almost got ran over by him on my bike when he was leaving the grocery store. I said dam that is a cool car  i have never seen one of those. So after a few months of looking for cars i gave up. then as i thumbed through the trade express i saw a 71 cuda with a 426 for 2600. I almost shit. When i went to look at the car it was a 318 barracuda with 426 wedge stickers on the valve covers dam but it was a nice car. then i saw a 1971 dodge charger r/t for 3600. it was the one i saw in town the older guy had. so i wanted it. I went down with 1800.00 cash and made the deal. the guy was leaving town and needed the cash and i needed the car so it was a perfect deal. It had a flat front tire at the time so i picked it up the next day and it was my first car i didnt even have my drivers liscence yet. Got my liscense and drove the car it gave me troubles here and there so i quickly learned how to work on cars. I didnt realize the 71 r/t was sort of a rare car from low production so i got lucky, i dont ever plan on selling it but you know thay say everyone has a price. Mine will be high, since it is my first car and if i sold it i would never be able to afford another real r/t.  I still think if you are going to buy an old car you either dont drive it much or you need to learn how to work on them  or have a lot of money and let someone else rip you off. I take pleasure in working on my cars except for body work i hate body work. i love working on engines and building them. The engine has been out a few times in this car.

Page one : pictures of exterior

Page two : pictures of interior

Page three : fixing things, added new short video of car at idle.

page four : pictures of motor

And like my coronet and Valiant i will be adding pics as i find them i have lots of pictures of my cars just need to dig them out of storage.

First two pics the one on the left is my friend jessica's gold 71 charger r/t and my charger her car in front mine behind it with my friend vince leaning on my car, he had a cool 67 dart and a big block 68 roadrunner. the other pic is the charger the first week i got it home. The outside of the car looks the same today in 2009 as it did in 1993 i have spent most my time onthe motor suspension and interior. the car is a number matching car so i try and keep it original if i change anything i save all the original parts.
