How to get started at the track with NASA
GrassRootsMotorsSports is the magazine that I wait for each month. When I get it I read everythhing in it. There is always stuff about NASA HPDE, track days, driving schools...Basically if you want your car to be faster the first place to spend your hard earned dollar is on improving your skills. I play at the track with NASA so this page will take you step by step through how to get to your first HPDE.
Step 1 Join NASA click www.nasaproracing.com click where it says Join Nasa today(follow directions on page)cost is $45.00 for a year.
Step 2 Car in safe operating condition. On the right side click Forms. Scroll down and click on HPDE Tech. Print the form and go check out your car.
2a You will want to clean every thing out of your car(if you crash or spin anything loose becomes a projectile)Interior and trunk.
2b Pack all your stuff in conainers that are easy to take out and set in your pit area. Things to bring; Helmet, license, mechanics gloves - every thing is hot, note pad, pens, acurate tire pressure gauge - check before and after each session, torque wrench and lug nut socket - check wheels before sessions(mine are at 80ftlbs) , wheel chocks - you will want to let your car run to with the hood up to cool the motor after each session and the Ebrake will warp hot rotors. Ice chest with lots of water - if you get dehydrated you will not be sharp and focused. Bring extra oil. Gas card - Pumps at the track are self serve(I filled up twice during the first day). Car wax and tape or 10 inch stick on numbers - put a light coat of wax on before you put your numbers on then wipe off the excess(prevents residue when removing numbers), a couple of chairs.
