Here it is, My 1989 Volvo 740 GLE

Frdbrnk408's 1989 Volvo 700-Series

My kids call it "The Old Man Car", they can call it whatever they want.....this is my daily driver and it gets me everywhere. It might not be pretty and it might not be fast, but it sure is reliable and comfortable!

Pretty much all I do is put gas and oil in it, and every few years it gets new tires. The Volvo is a wonderfull car maintenance wise, it has always run great and never needed any major repairs!

I have 140,000 miles on this one, I bought it 6 years ago for $2000 and have never regretted it. I got it from an old woman that had lost her vision and could not drive anymore, she had no use for the car and let it go cheap.

It has the 2.3 Liter Volvo B 234 F Engine, which delivers 153 HP @ 5700 rpm....150 ft. lbs. of torque  @ 4500rpm ..and has a 10.0:1 compression ratio

Like I said, it's nothing fancy....and definately not fast. But it sure gets the job done, this is the most reliable car I have ever owned! And it really drives great, especially on the highway!

This Volvo is 20 years old, and in pretty darn good shape. I will post more pics in the spring when I get a chance to clean it up a bit, I am thinking of restoring it....it's in good shape and would be well worth the effort!

The interior is in excellent condition, all leather with no tears. I will have to replace the headliner, the moon roof leaked a little and discolored the headliner quite a bit. The windshield will need to be replaced, a rock hit it last summer and now it has a 14 inch crack in it.

I am a maintenance freak when it comes to my rides, I never skip an oil change and you guessed it.....I always use Mobil 1 Synthetic Motor Oil, no surprise there! No wonder my 740 runs like a top, it has the "Worlds Most Popular Synthetic Motor Oil" inside it's engine.

Once the weather warms up, I will be cleaning the old Volvo up and take a good look at  it and see about starting a restoration. It's a good ride for what it is.....Who Knows, maybe I can mod it up a bit!....LOL

I've got a 1986 volvo 740 GLE and it still runs like the day it was bought. Try tinting the windows, its really cheap and it looks really nice! The engine looks really good, keep it up and you'll have that gem for years to come!

Nice 740, those are nice cars, comfortable, roomy and reliable. I had a 89 740GLE, it was one of my favourite cars inspite of the fact that I think it was cursed, everybody seemed to want to run into it! 5 Stars!
