Here is my 1987 Audi 4000 CS Quattro
When I got the car it was a mess. The guy who sold it to me did not convey all that info to me though. I was just looking for a winter beater...but had to go Audi.
Day one
That was when I though all I had to do was pull the front end out. Well that would have been to easy. New power steering bracket and pump....well from the junk yard but new to this car.
The pump for the power locks was broken too. It’s located in the trunk and the trunk was locked. That was fun to try and figure out. Once I got the trunk open there was HUGE holes where it had rusted through. the heat shield for the muffler had been holding all the road stuff up on the car. So fiberglass work. The whole exhaust was a mess. I had been told that it was just one hole. The guy I got it from had pulled the back half out of the garage when he started it I though to keep the fumes out but nope it was to keep me from looking at it. I dropped the whole thing from the manifold back and did some serious welding. In hindsight a whole new system probably would have been the way to go. But 20 20 right. The old windshield had a 1 inch crack in it that would have been fine but at one point I had it jacked up and cranked on the frame wrong and the crack grew to about 2 feet. Had to replace the radiator thermo switch so I did all the hoses and stuff too. New plugs distributor cap and rotor all around. New used headlights. Some aftermarket fog lights to help the night vision. Finally got down to just doing body work.
bondo on the hood in my make shift garage...you need something when working on a car in the winter in VT. After some work on getting that all smooth I talked to an Audi mechanic friend of mine and he said he had a red hood if I wanted it. So I went up to get it. Put it on and it wouldn’t close. Apparently I hadn’t bent the front back out all the way...just far enough to fit my bent hood. So tied it down for the 20 mile ride home. That was a little scary. Got home and pulled the frame out until it lined up with the hood.
Then I chaised rust spots
Like the multi colors of primer and paint and rust stuff.
Then I made a painting booth in a freinds heated garage...i wish i had a heated garage
got the hood silver again.
And now here it as as it sits right now. More to be done later but its cold out.
Took it for a drive today...fresh powder
Thats it for now. Will update when I do more...engine swap??
