Yeah it should be vtec..you should be able to see the vtec solenoid behind the back left corner of your valve cover

hi there, hey nice car i saw your question to some other user since your civic is between the years 1996-2000 and a honda civic EX it should have the D16Y8 engine which has vtec you can check your engine ID to confirm this, hope that helps
