Yes, I know........
I said "No more project cars", but I couldn't let this pass me by! Hey, what's another '67 Coronet? Just a use for all the parts I have in the garage.

Bought this car on Valentines Day 2008. Originally a Florida car, it spent it's later years in Kentucky. I don't think it saw many salty roads because the underside has no rust damage to structural parts. It sat in a barn for a few years, so moisture wasn't a big problem. A sound foundation for a restoration.

I never even heard the car run, bought it at first look. It was a 318 car, but that didn't matter, I am transplanting the 383 from my other '67 along with the rest of that drivetrain. I have a 440 built for that car. I did get the 318 started before pulling it out, but not before catching it on fire! Got the fire out before any damage. Engine sounded OK, but again, who cares!

Car is an automatic with AC, power brakes & steering, bucket seats, console, & vinyl top (which BTW is in great shape). Original color of the 500 was medium tourquise (Yuck) but under that factory color was some white on the front part of the car. Apparently they began painting it white, by mistake, then switched to the ordered color. Later it was painted light blue, then finally the bronze color. I believe I will repaint it in the new Chrysler bronze, GO-Man-GO. Interior is black, seats will need new covers, and carpet, of course. Replacing the original AC with Vintage Air kit.

Working on the body now. Pulled the grille & front fenders first. LF was a replacement (MoPar) fender so I didn't have a lot of undercoating to remove on that side. RF was thick in undercoating, neither had any rust. I have never seen a '67 fender not rusted at the bottom. Both of these are strong and solid (main reason I bought the car). Engine & tranny came out easy enough and then I decided to remove the K-member (should have just pulled engine from bottom with K-member, that's how it is going back in). Made a temporary front axle from a '37 Plymouth straight axle & some strut bars to bolt into the K-member holes. The front axle turns like a wagon by way of a piece of 1/2" conduit tongue, for mobility while the engine is out & at the body shop.
Floor had small holes in both passerger & driver's side typically where the windshield leaks at the corners, but these were not in any structral position, easily patched. The rest of the floor was very solid. I reinforced rear frame stubs near spring supports.
While this project is taking longer than expected, I am going to build a solid, dependable, fun, street car that I can keep for the rest of my life, knowing it was built right. I'll try to keep updated pictures coming...........
Since I posted this afternoon I've gotten 5 messages already, so here is a little more info.
Engine will be a 1967 383 with closed-chambered big valve heads that have new bronze valve guides, new Direct Connection springs & retainers, and have been ported somewhat. Using the mild 272 degree .455" lift P4286677 DC cam. Although considering the 284/.484" cam I also have on the shelf. Edelbrock Performer RPM intake with either a 1407 Edelbrock carb or Carter AVS 440 unit now on car. Exhaust are Super Bee HP cast iron with 2.5" pipes & low restriction mufflers. Probably use one of the aluminum water pump housings & pumps already on the shelf. Transmission is a slightly modified 727 with about +400 RPM stall converter. Rear end is Chrysler 8.75 with limited-slip 3.55, might try the 4.10 for the fun of it sometime. Probably stick with the DC electronic ignition kit with higher voltage coil. Using the Vintage Air instead of the original cast iron compressor, along with aluminum intake & water pump, I hope to cut a couple hundred pounds off the overweight car. Already taken about a 5 gallon bucketfull of undercoating off & I'm not done the rear half of the car yet. Will not get it down to the 3750# my Hemi Coronet was, but maybe below 4000#.
No race car for sure, but a very streetable fun car to drive & take to the track now & then, that's my goal. Now the "other" '67 Coronet, the blue one, will have a bit more done to it and hopefully at least a second faster, still driveable, but about 75 more HP, hopefully.....
