I started it up today , getting it up to temp and checking for leaks ect. Ran well

Then rechecked all fluid levels. Also checked battery charge rate 14.4 volts.

Since the new turbo is larger in size ive had to make an new pipe from turbo to intercooler. Here it is.

Before I put on the new pipe I took it for a 1/2 hour drive and when I got back noticed a small amount of oil in the compressor housing outlet.

So... on the phone to GCG Turbos and ordered an oil restrictor. 1mm inside diameter.

These ball bearing turbos are not supposed to run oil pressure above 65psi.

And I know that this motor runs a bit over 70psi.

I believe this has solved the problem.

I have put in 1 inch lowered springs and the original wheels with hubcaps for the ultimate sleeper look.

You would never pick it as being anything but a stocker .

Today i played around with the cam timing via the adjustable cam gear I got made for it

Androo26s 1993 Daihatsu Applause

I advanced the cam 2 degrees forward. What this does is moves the peak torque lower in the rev range to give a smoother more flat power curve instead of the (come on strong all at once) power band. At this point Im only running the standard wastegate boost setting of 5 psi until Im happy with every thing.

With the new turbo, the thing still top ends well due to the size of the exhaust housing. I also had to set the base timing again as it had moved due to the distributor running off the end of the camshaft.

Im trying to get the car to make as much smooth torque as possible in the rev range that it gets driven most 2000-4500 rpm (Daily Driver remember)

This smoothing out of the power bannd makes for much better traction out of corners and is more predictable to drive.

Hopefully I can get it on a dyno and do some runs with the cam in the retarded, stock and advanced positions as a comparison.

More boost soon.

Now running 7 psi.

It would seem sensible to leave it where it is at the moment because I get good traction in 2nd 3rd 4th and fifth on a dry road with a great spread of torque , very drivable

Still a bit of wheelspin out of corners but not as much as 10 psi.

Ive always wondered about the effects of increasing plenum volume/ size and what it would do. So...                    I had a 1 inch/ 25mm spacer cut out of aluminium to space the EFI cover up and increase plenum volume by roughly 15-20% and here it is.

It looks a little odd sitting there but its really an experiment to see if it has any effect.

Maybe that 15-20% isnt enough of a difference to feel any gains as doubling the plenum size but we will have to see.

Now running 8.5 - 9 psi.

It would seem that torque has increased as it now frequently frys the tyres in second in the dry in a straight line, as before it didnt used to do that.

Maybe a 2 stage boost controller would be better for traction, low boost in 1,2 10psi in 3,4,5th gears.

I have finally got round to finishing off the guage holder.

In the next 2 weeks I shall be going to the dyno for some long awaited power runs.

Ok Dyno runs are done and dusted.

The page on the right has the boost graph along the bottom of screen. It peaks at 11psi then falls back to 9psi.

This probably would have made a little more if it had the full 10 psi on board all the way. Anyway it has made the numbers of 130.3kw at the wheels so im stoked with that as that was the initial goal.

The graph on the left also has an air/fuel ratio read out

Hooray for me!!!

A new addition to the family

In the form of a HONDA CBR 600RR

Its an 07 model. Just what I need to loose my licence.

I have more mods to do to the car yet but its coming to a close I feel.

Front strut brace and new drivers bucket seat.

Until next episode of the project!!!!

STAY TUNED FOR MORE MODS SOON!!!!!!

Hi Androo Wondering if you still check this site ever... I've got a T25G and the motivation to get it onto my applause... was wondering if you might be able to give me a hand with the manifold? Or at least tell me somewhere that will do it for me? Cheers! Tim
