guitar_kid_99's 1987 Chevrolet Camaro

I bought this car in college. I believe the car used to be an LT model, which was intended to replace the Berlinetta. It was an ugly car, the proir owners were smart enough to swap those out for some parts off an 86 IROC. Obviously they didnt get it 100% right or have any clue what they were doing as far as alignment.
The car originally had a V6, i think they were 2.8's, correct me if im wrong, either way, a V6 in a camaro is a dumbass idea too, thats why the proir owners made a "smart" choice in installing an old carburated 350

Unfortunatly for me these people were hillbilly retards and ran the car without an air filter for several thousand miles instead of investing in a cowl hood to fit a proper air filter on top. To cap their stupidity, they installed a HUGE cam with the stock heads, causing the heads to blow, and reused the intake manifold gasket for the performance edelbrock intake and holley carb. They never invested in a dipstick and ran the car with too much oil due to they thought it was burning oil when in reality it had a blown head gasket. Well needless to say the engine doesnt run anymore, the excessive amount of oil filled up the lifter and popped the damn rocker arm right off. And they dont know what happened. So i traded them my ford probe gt with the jspec KLZE motor for this, because I thought it had some potential. They also invested in a Turbo-350 Transmission as well, which I may or may not swap out of a Richmond 6-speed when i have the money. Right now I just need to focus on rebuilding the engine and heads around a STOCK camshaft until i can afford better heads to suit the old one IF its not out of round by now.
Also as you can see by the pictures it needs some MAJOR body work as well before I give it too much power

It needs some interior work as well before I do too much, Whats the good in trying to go fast if you feel like youre in a damn beater because of the interior.

I know the pics are rather unclear, but its almost winter and I took it out of the trailer outside, i needed to get it in the garage (where theres no lights to be taking pics) However when i get it to my dads house and start working on it, ill keep you all posted with some pics of the engine rebuild. Sorry, body work and interior wont be comming till the springtime. Im moving to new jersey and the car is staying in illinois for the winter.

Thanks for the info. Thanks for the comments too. I try to keep it clean and I don't like abusing it. I feel like it's part of me and don't like to mistreat my Camaro. Haven't really had that many problems with it and it's 22 yrs. old. Had more trouble with a 1994 Thunderbird and 1996 Cougar than I've ever had with this car. Chevy builds heavy duty. Not even my 1978 Camaro has given me as much as the '94 and '96. Yeah just trying to do mods here and there, but don't really have time or money with school and stuff. Well thanks and keep me posted and good luck with the swap. 5 stars to you too!

Oh yeah, didn't see that. Nice to see another Camaro owner from New Jersey on here! I lived in Burlington for 13 years.

I think you'd be way better off with fiberglass, I know I will. If your car is decked out with carbon fiber, and you get in an accident, or even a tiny fender bender, it's probably going to cost more than a down payment on a house to replace. You can paint carbon fiber though, I was looking at a carbon fiber OEM and cowl hood once for Camaros, they're pretty neat. I heard some carbon hoods only weigh 8 pounds.

Thanks for the kind words! I've checked out different chassis, and it's just not worth it to me at all, I want my Camaro to be technically a full street legal car, close to production specs, just weighing less with more horsepower, of course. RodN'Race makes some very neat stuff for 82-92 Camaros, whole fiberglass bodies, I've seen other companies that make fiberglass finders too, RodN'race only has the complete on piece pro stock front end. Right now I'm focusing my money and saving up for the T-56 swap, and I eventually want to paint the car red. Thanks for the tips on dropping some weight off the car too! 5 stars, your Camaro seems to be coming along good, I love seeing them being restored.
