rudybelles 1970 Plymouth Duster rudybelles 1970 Plymouth Duster rudybelles 1970 Plymouth Duster arudybelles 1970 Plymouth Duster This is my 1970 plymouth duster that I have owned since august of 2006. It took a year and a half for this restoration. Most of the work was done by myself, other than the heavy bodywork. Im an automotive painter by trade so I was able to swap some paint work for my bodywork. This was my first restoration project to which I own. When I got the car... it ran, drove and was tagged in Delaware. It had a 318 / 904 stock drivetrain with a 7 and 1/4 one legger. The tired 318 ran great but really lacked horsepower. I guess 90,000k was to blame. The body was in pretty good shape other than the quarter panels, rear body panel, trunk extensions, and a shotty paint job. I proceeded to take the car apart in October of 2006. Having big plans in mind, I knew it was going to be a long time until this baby would see the road. First, I disassembled the entire car, chemical stripped the entire car,  then got all the bodywork done. After the metal work and mud work processes were complete, it was back in my hands. I then primed and blocked each panel between two and five times depending on the severity of the panel. I was convinced the body was laser straight. I then stripped the engine compartment by sand blasting. The time had come to pick a color so I could cut the engine bay in. Believe it or not, green is probably my least favorite color of all. I had owned alot of cars, none of which were green or silver. I knew that I wanted a color that was going to stand out, so the 2008 PPG color book came out and this color caught my eye. This color is called snakeskin green pearl and it can only be found on 08 and 09 Vipers. This would be perfect, but would it be too much green, I asked? I decided that it would be, so i started pairing up colors.... you see the final product. After cutting in the engine bay, I proceeded to sand blast the front suspension and get paint on the parts. The suspension has all new bushings, shocks and even a manual disc brake conversion kit. I put the suspension back together also running new pre-bent stainless brake lines. I then turned to the undercarriage, which got new stainless 3/8 fuel line, new gas tank painted to match car, new straps, new mopar racing springs, new shocks, new shackles, weld in sub-frame connectors, a new moser ford 9" crate rear complete with 3.50 gear tru trac posi unit, and a fresh coat of undercoating. I then ordered a 408 stroker  crate engine from blueprint, TCI 727 street fighter transmission, a 2500 stall speed torque converter, hooker comp. headers, and a bee cool radiator kit complete with elec. fan and over flow. Eager to get this puppy running, every day was spent installing the new drivetrain. I then got a drive-shaft made, bled the brakes and towed the car to a muffler shop to receive a 2 and 1/2" exhaust system complete with 40 series flowmasters and an X pipe. Finally up and running, it was time to cut in the rest of the car and paint it. I used PPG global basecoats with the deltron line high solids clear 2021. I was well liked by my paint supplier as I spent a total of $3,200 just on paint material. I know that sounds kinda high to some people, however to those of you that know anything about the industry you can understand. I finished it up by flat sanding and buffing the entire car to a mirror finish. I then started working on the interior, I smoothed out the dash by getting rid of the dash pad and speaker. It was then painted and put back in. The head liner was next...new visors, carpet, seat covers, pro car (scat) front racing seats, RSJ racing belts, auto meter NV gauges, grant GT wheel, B&M bandit shifter, sill plates, rubbers, kenwood CD player, 2 kenwood 6x9 3ways, and a new shelfpad were in order. I then put the exterior together, new door handles, locks, window trim, smoothed bumpers, grille, new glass and gaskets, new lights, and a new side mirror. I then purchased weld wheels complete with M/T sportsmans up front, and M/T drag radials out back. It was completed at the end of July 2008. I then started taking it to all the local shows and cruises. The car has won many trophies. I have been wanting to race it at my local 1/4 mile track to see what it will do. I would imagine it will turn a high 12 or super low 13. Ill keep you posted on that. Anyway, Thank You for checking out my ride and dont forget to rate my ride!  Feel free to post a comment!
