Magna, Utah Labor Day Car Show 2009
For some fun in the sun we thought we would take the cobra out on the open road for a car show. The car looked great on the road going down there. Here is how it looked getting ready for the trip. Thanks to our local boy scout troup 440 for posting the USA flag in the yard in front of our American Bi-Centenial Spirit of America flagship edition of the Ford Mustang family in the for the holiday.

We left fairly early in the day and arrived shortly after the show started in Magna. The 450+ mile road trip was a lot of fun and the car drove and handled perfectly.

Some people have asked me how our T-5 transmission does out on the highway compared to the regular 4 speed transmission. This picture taken on a flat stretch of I-15 while maintaining at cruising speed tells the story. As you can see, I run about 2400 RPM at 80 miles per hour. I easily have the power to cruise up Malad Pass in southern Idaho in 5th gear without downshifting. The interesting part of the highway driving in the car is that you get about 70-75 at the beginning of the power band in 5th gear, so if you accelerate at that point you really have to work to hold it back since she wants to run and you could be to 90 in a heartbeat. In 4th gear it wants to get wild about 65, which came in handy in SLC on I-15 when all the crazy drivers there pull up beside you on the freeway and instead of just passing they get distracted and start weaving into your lane... Its like goodbye-- you dope smoking rubber neckers!

So here are some shots of the front of the car at the show. I picked up a few bugs in 4 hours of travel time, but its looking pretty sweet for the 350 car event.

Here are some good shots of the rear of the car at the Magna show.

And here's a good look at the engine compartment.

As a bonus for the show I got a great prize, a nifty 1/2 inch power drill which I was surprised to win as a perk for show participants. I went by my local hardware store today on and found the very item on sale with tax for $191, so I guess that more than paid for my gas and admission fee. Oh yeah, and I got another cool shirt.
I was really pleased with the feel of the show and I felt really comfortable with the layout of the event and overall feel. The local community was really involved with a lot of playground activities, a hunters education archery and rifle shoot for the kids, and the state highway patrol had some crash simulators there and other cool auto things to see and do. Plus there were lots of food and typical car show venders and a DJ playing classic car songs to make it a nice interesting show.
