1976 Mustang Cobra II Exterior

I have owned this car for over two decades now.  It is an original 1976 Ford Cobra II which came equipped with a factory 302 V8.  It still has the original block, although its had a few upgrades since then to add increased performance. The car has a 5 speed manual T-5 World Class Transmission and a 3:55 positive traction 8 inch rear end.

This is the same factory paint scheme its had its entire life.  For longevity sake, when the car was recently repainted the stripes were painted on instead of using the adhesive sticker stripe package.  The side windows have been tinted to the maximum legal amount.   In 2009 the car was driven to eight car shows, and each time it was the only Mustang II at the event.  You can bet it received lots of attention as a result.

The car currently runs new tires mounted on the factory wheels with the Cobra II center caps and beauty rings installed.  The rubber is a set of 4 Sumitomo HTR 200 tires in the P205/60 R13 size, which is as close to stock as is currently available on the market.

I really like the car since it has many of the exterior factory optional features on it that did not come on the base model, including, the side quarter & rear window louvers, front facing hood scoop as was done the 75-76 years, front lower chin spoiler, and front & rear bumper push bars.  It also has the factory V8 as is shown with the fender badging, and both front & rear sway bars.

Note the Monroe Handler project in the background for yet another project this year.

I really like the look of the chrome beauty rings, painted ralley wheels and cobra center caps.  With the positive traction differential and traction bars in the car it is much easier to prevent the tires from burning up too bad.  I also have set of larger 14 inch Mickey Thompson F-70 Indy Series performance tires mounted on American Racing Chrome Nugget Series rims for when I am feeling nasty.

The car has a well established dedicated home page at this location:

The site above has much in depth information including part #s of some of the mechanical specs on the car.  If your interested in such matters please take time to check it out.   If you don't love Mustang IIs, this one will definitely change your mind.

With its fresh restoration complete after owning the car for so long its going to be a fun summer.  Seeing the car in person, it really makes your heart race with excitement. The pictures really don't do it justice.

Here's a closeup shot of my newly installed chrome Borla dual exhaust tips.  It goes to show that with a lot of patience, a lot of work and some serious part searching that great things can happen.  I wish the pictures could do it justice like seeing it in person.  It sure is an eye catcher and we are quite proud of this machine.

Did I mention that in this car I proposed to the most beautiful woman in the whole world, just 17+ years ago?  Who need's Charlies Angels?  I have my own angelic companion now.  Arguably, she married me for my car. But, an interesting story is about 12 years ago, on the 4th of July, she was learning to drive a stick shift with me south of town here.  On dry, rough, and clean pavement she did an incredible 360 degree burnout at a rural four way stop intersection by tromping hard on the gas and letting out on the clutch, using the same standard of accelleration to start out as we had to use in our other gutless car we owned at the time.  The car screamed around the intersection burning rubber like there was no tomorrow and in the end left us in almost the same exact position we were as when we started.  She has opted not to drive the car ever since, but I am hoping she will give it a try, it would sure be a sight I'd sure love to see again!
