Hello, my name is Carson Delano Harrison III, but you can call be Del. I have a custom 2002 Ford Ranger XLT with an overhead valve 3.0 Vulcan V6. The 3.0 is a motor thats very dear to my heart, its the middle child of the three motors avaliable in rangers, and is the older of the engines, and has an interesting history behind it. It was one of the first practical american fuel injected motors, and one of (if not the) the first american engine avaliable for domestic use built entirely from the ground up to be a computerized, fuel injected motor, and was first avaliable in Ford Tempos and Tauruses when they daibued it in 1985. It was the "performance/economy" motor back then, getting around 20-25 mpg's, and pushing 140 hp. The Vulcan 3.0 also replaced the unreliable Cologne 2.9 V6 in the Ford Ranger line. It is no longer avaliable in the taurus, being replaced by the supurb Duratec name brand 3.0. It is only avaliable in the Ranger now, and is soon being discontinued all together. The reason Ford never replaced the Vulcan 3.0 in the 20+ years of duty, or at least I speculate, is becouse the 3.0 is a very very tough motor. Vulcan is the greek god of Fire and Iron-making, hence the entire engine is built of cast iron, making it a very durable engine. New models are making anywhere from 146 to 150 horsepower and 180-190 fp of torque. It is kinda a slouch by modern standerds, but i have built mine up a little with a modified intake, modified throttle body, modified throttle cable, modified pulley profile, modified exhaust, all kindsa stuff. Its a little more respectable now, making 170+ hp and 190+ torque, It will outrun most honda civics, and isint that what life is all about?
I decided to make a little movie of me and a buddy doing some light offroading. Let me know what you think about it!
