Sitting in storage from October '92 to October 2008

1st day in the sun after 16yrs. October 3rd, 2008 fresh out of storage
After 2 weeks of going over all the storage slumber repairs and a nice detail among many other misc. items this '58 is back to business.
The paint is dull and there are a few signs of some surface rust. I plan to do a complete overhaul over time as I restore and replace one thing after another.
I have just recently had the 1835cc engine that needed repair swapped in place of a new 1641cc which is much easier in my opinion to maintain and offers me more daily reliability as I plan to log some miles on this VW. A nice cam with a few other little additions offer enough power for the time being to suffice.
After sitting in hibernation for 16yrs there were a few things that needed replacing and/or repair.
The past 2 weeks have been spent on the following:
New engine, engine compartment seal, throwout bearing, shifter bushings and fuse block/fuses, exhaust, alternator and battery
Complete brake overhaul
New wiper arms/blades
4 new tires
New gas tank
New bumpers front and rear
New bucket style headlight assembly, bulbs replaced the Rossi headlights
New turn signals
Additional parts still in transit:
New transaxle
I found a pair of original Hella snowflake taillights which are due anyday :)
I already have a custom original '58 style speedometer to replace this aftermarket VDO speedometer and I am looking for the original '58 steering wheel column/assembly to replace the current setup.

Future plans are heavy and involve a gradual but steady evolution to take this VW back to a Resto-Cal look with more original parts/acc. to include all the original style chrome, low back seats, complete interior swap, exterior/interior color change and wheel swap in favor of something complimentary to the new look.
If you find yourself in the Pascagoula,Biloxi,MS area or Atlanta,GA be sure to look me up and send me a shout as I am always in one of these areas and would love to meet/greet with fellow VW members and cruise/socialize.
More to come as the evolution continues.
Namaste
