I found this Corvair Corsa in Oconto Falls, Wisconsin on a website called cars-on-line.com in March of 2001. I flew from Washington, DC's National Airport into Green Bay and took a cab up to Onconto Falls to pick it up.
I went over the Corvair with the owner, exchanged monies, title, I drove it back home to Northern Virginia where I lived at the time. It was a long trip home but I had a great time doing it. The tires on it had some flat spots in them from sitting so I had to deal with a little vibration.
I did not restore this Corvair, this is the way it looked when I picked it up, except the addition of the wheels & tires. I don't restore cars.
On the way home from Wisconsin I stopped at the infamous Corvair Ranch in Gettysburg, PA to have Jeff look it over. We put up in the air to have a look at the underside and we were both surprised at how rust free it was. The previous owner had kept the underside sprayed with oil to keep it from rusting. It was a little dirty under there but that's OK, I can clean dirt off but you can't clean rust off!
After driving for a couple of months I decided to go to the 2001 National Corvair Convention in Chicago, Illinois in July. So I trekked back off to the Midwest in my Corvair. What a trip, I had a great time there but didn't know any people but I did meet some very neat Corvair people, what a bunch!
After the car show at the convention I decided I wanted to drive up to Minnesota just to see what it looked like but I got tired of driving, so up around Madison, WI I turned off to head up towards Fond-Du-Lac, WI and then over to take the car ferry across Lake Michigan to Michigan State. My God what a drive!
More Later.........Still Workin' On It!
