So here it is... The car that started a new domestic car era as well as influenced the end of it.
1975. The first year of the infamous AMC Pacer. Thought by many to be one of the ugliest, poorly designed jokes of the automotive industry, it was in fact revolutionary. If not for the lack of its originally planned engine, the wankel rotary, the Pacer could quite well have been the start of the new age of efficient, powerful yet small cars.
My particular pacer is the base Coupe model. Above it were the D/L and the X. My coupe is powered by the standard 232CID in-line 6 cylinder mated with the 3 speed automatic transmission. Other options are on the light side with only AM radio, rear window de-fogger, bench seat, rear window washer/wiper, vinyl roof and whitewall tires. The car is finished in Ivory green and I have to say, with the vinyl top and white walls... its relatively sharp considering!
If you check out 'collectible automobile's April 2009 issue, you'll find a great write up on the Pacer. In there, you'll also find a picture of my particular car! So now I can tell people my car is actually a collectible! Only problem is that after finally getting my car into a nice magazine, they put the wrong owner down!
