Welcome to Project: Snow Drift.
UPDATE ON PAGE 7. A FEW DRIFT EVEN PICS FROM THE FEB 7th DRIFT EVENT HERE!!!
This is my 2000 Mazda Miata LS. (Nardi Package) that I bought just this last may. Why, being 6 feet tall, did I decide to go with the miata? Numerous reasons.
1. FR chassis - for drifting
2. It was too cheap to pass up - $8,900 - 68k miles (when I bought it back in May. currently reads about 78k)
3. I was tired of older cars, and their problems. which is why I didn't go for a rolla or 240
4. I really love convertables.
5. (enter other car/drift related comments here)
Anyway, When I bought the car it had a nice set of 16" enki's. yes I still have them. beautiful wheels.
and they look great on the car.
Since then I have add a pair of 14" zenki's and a pair of 15" SportMax' to my arsenal.
I got the car 2 days before a drift event and took it straight out to see what I could do.
I only wish someone would've taken pictures of my feeble attempts throughout the season. I went to 9 of the 12 events with my miata, and I can't find anyone that was there, with so much as a single photo of me drifting. That really pissed me off. There aren't a lot of places around here to drift outside of the track, and you have to go there at night, which makes for worse pics. oy, I'm annoyed not having too much of anything of me drifting.
Update 11/15/08:
I've decided, after much thought, that I will retire this as my drifter and go with something else. there are numerous reasons for this:
1. Beginning next season I will need at least a 4 point cage, racing seat, racing harness, and minimum sa2000 approved helmet to drift. All in all these 4 items would cost me nearly $1k. to get.
2. After this last season I have had a few mechanical issues with the car that are costing me to repair, leaving me momentarily without a daily driver.
3. As new as this car is and me never before owning a relitively new vehicle, I've decided to keep it in better condition.
Yeah, I've already been called a wimp and other names on the driftutah forums for my decision, but the truth of the matter is, it would be less costly for me to drift something that won't cost me so much trouble if something were to go seriously wrong. I can find something that is driftable and easily containing most, if not all, of the necessary modifications to drift it during the season (leaving me with only a helmet to get) for a reasonable price. Leaving me with a car that I can beat the crap out of and not have to worry so much about problems if it were my daily driver hitting a wall. (note: I still owe about $10k on my miata, which, if it were to be totalled drifting, my insurance wouldn't cover it, and i'd be left without a car and still having to pay the money.)
Logically it seems like the best choice for me. maybe in a few years when the miata is paid off, and I've moved on, i'll see about preping it for drifting once more. I've always loved the thought of drifting something different, but sadly, at the moment, that is financialy out of my reach.
I probably won't have anything new until next spring, but I'll keep you updated.
Anyway,
