Brief Overview of the Sport of Rally
What is Rally??? Simply put…. real cars, real roads, real fast…it’s a real production car driving at insane speeds on a real road that is closed off to the public. A two-person team consisting of a driver and a navigator blast down roads that in many events are not pre run or practiced prior to the start. The navigator riddles off instructions that the driver translates and makes needed adjustments to keep the car on the road. Each team sets off at one-minute intervals over a “special stage” of which 5-30 of theses makes up a rally. A rally can run from 1 to 3 days during the day/night/rain/snow/desert heat over 100-300miles the event goes on. The fastest time over all the special stages wins the event.
Rally organizers work with the local city and surrounding communities coordinate the course route and arrange for the 100-500 volunteer workers. Rally events average 40-80 cars per event. More than 5,000 people can attend depending on the event, including teams, crews, media and spectators.
