GOODYEAR berber floor mats.
PERFORMANCE upgrades:
ELECTRONICS SYSTEM:
extra under hood grounding mod using blue 8 gauge Stinger street wire . this doesn't add any performance to lights, audio or anything else but it can cure electrical problems from jumpy gauges to misfires. no above oem spec gains can be made but it simply can bring everything back up to full DELPHI standards.
IGNITION SYSTEM: MSD ignition ; coils, wires & double dipped platinum plugs
INTAKE SYSTEM:
3" elbow SPECTRE 900CFM cold air intake w/ HSP heat sleeve (intake tube sock) HSP is Heat Shield Products
EXHAUST SYSTEM:
highest performance cat you can get, lol
one quarter inch increased pipe diameter
custom blue EDELBROCK red hots
now i am playing with the IAT sensor/resistor mod. all these fancy power chips are nothing but a resistor that fools the ecu into thinking its cold outside. variable motor management system is just several resistor loads you can choose from. the most performance an aurora ecu can adjust for is -40 below 0. at this reading the ecu advances the ignition timing by 5 degrees BTDC and dumps more fuel accordingly. this mod will decrease 1/4 times by half a second so with the 100,700 ohm resistor in place my 1/4 time will be 15.25 @ 93.5 mph or i can just unplug the MAP sensor and it will run balls to the wall all the time (96+ auroras only)
SUSPENSION SYSTEM:
Monroe MA822 color matched air shocks
Moog strut bushings
CUSTOM MADE 2006 Cadillac strut tower brace
255/55R16 tires vs OEM 235/60R16

plans are in the making to turn my Aurora into an autobahn . This requires swapping out the ECU, PCM & differential. the difference in differentials is very close but has to be done to match the brain. i'm running 3:48 now and need to go up to 3:71 however by removing the "govenor" by reflashing the brain the non autobahn aurora would be faster in top speed than an autobahn aurora would be. this costs nearly $500.00 and Westers Garage is the only place that can do it. its the last thing i will do with the car. once accomplished i fully intend to go to BONNEVILLE SALT FLATS IN UTAH and officially become the world's fastest Oldsmobile Aurora !!!! what a great honor it will be. i have already began running simmulations in my program. a bone stock autobahn will top out at 142 mph. on a day with perfect weather for such an attempt i believe 150 MPH may be obtainable. This is with 95 percent confidence. Razzi side skirts will be added. any unnecessary excess weight will be pulled before the run. for instance my dual amp, dual sub box weighs 50 pounds .
Currently the fastest gps verified autobahn Aurora is 148.3 mph according to ACNA records. Breaking this speed will not get me into Guinness or anything of the sorts. It will just be for personal satisfaction.if an autobahn can do 148.3 with 3.71 gears the non autobahn can break 150 with 3.48
i realize this isn't really fast and plenty of stock cars can go faster, it was a called a luxury performance car. the aurora engine was succesful in nascar & IRL but the street version of the 4.0 was greatly detuned. just think of the aurora like a crown vic police interceptor only with leather & loaded with commodoties and a hair more performance
manufacturer performance specs such as 0 - 60 times , 1/4 mile times , and top speeds, these are always tested with all fluids to full capacity. curb weight includes all fluids to maximum capacity. that includes 3.6 liters of washer fluid. the aurora has massive dual washer tanks, one is in the fender. they hold nearly 1 gallon. wont need the watered down windex for the run and water weighs 8.34 pounds a gallon. don't worry, i'm not gonna strip down half my car's weight for speed like i saw some silly ricers do on youtube. but i can easily shed another 27 pounds by removing the 20 lb spare tire, 4 lb jack & 3 lb spare tire cover. on the inside i can shed the robust berber floor mats, everything in the glove box and center console. i will have to pull out the 14 pound rear seat to get to the 48 pound battery underneath. no need to throw the seat back in for a top speed pass though. i'll even take out the car's massive oversized 48 pound
INTERSTATE ba ttery whic h is under the rear seat since there was no room under the hood with a transverse V8! won't need juice once i'm rolling. the alternator can keep me going.
if your keeping track there's 200 pounds already but since top speeds were tested with a full gas tank i can lose another 123 pounds! yea with the behemoth 20 gallon tank i'll only need about 1/2 a gallon to make a run. gas is 6.3 pounds per gallon. with any luck i can shed 200 pounds off the manufacturer tested curb weight. of course they didn't test with 100 pounds of stereo lol! so i can lose 306 pounds but only 206 of it will actually count, as far as a baseline weight
8 lb washer fluid + 27 lb spare/ jack/cover + 48 lb battery +123 lb gas = 206 pounds off tested curb weight
before you say it can't be done realize that the aurora 0.320 is more aerodynamic than any mustang, camaro, trans am or corvette of 0.340 before any body mods are performed. by dropping the car 2 inches and adding side skirts, along with the existing rear spoiler, it is possible to get the C.O.D. down to 0.30, as well as decreasing the frontal area sq/ft. more by dropping the car 2 inches or so.
though there are no pictures up of it yet, i just pulled off the front curb finder/ curb feeler/ front spoiler which really cleaned up the looks of the front end. this part supposedly helpd push air up to the radiator. but since i have pulled the engine cover, the hood cover & dust flap and added a + 3 psi radiator cap, i'm not worried about overheating at all. i also use Redline Water Wetter. the benefits of this mod not only stop annoying parking block rubbing but actually decreased the frontal area of the car by 1.1 sq ft. the 2.125" x 74.5" piece actually consumes 0.5 hp at 60 mph or 3 hp at 100 mph according to aerodynamic hp loss calculators.
testing conditions will make a huge difference. as close to sea level as possible will yield better test speeds. a colder day will yield quicker acceleration, but a hot day will allow for higher top end speed. a windless day would be ideal while humidity will play a huge factor. body lines such as the sides of the hood, doors and trunk will be covered with peel tape to keep turbulence to a minimum. a quick spray & wipe wax like mequiars will be applied minutes before the run.
the hardest thing to get around will be the computers speed limiter or electronic govenor, but unplugging the map or iat sensor may just do the trick. by using taller tires i can can fool the ecu and cheat up to 9.56 mph. this is because the speed sensors in the wheels are calculated for 27.10 "rolling diameter but with 28.95" 235/70 i could gain 9.56 mph when the brain cuts at what it thinks is 140.
