History
This is my 1984 Jeep Scrambler. My father was an avid jeeper when he was in college and loved to modify his Jeeps and take them to the extreme. When he started his family he decided it was time to become a little more responsible and purchased this Jeep off a lot in Utah. The idea was that with more room in the back there would be enough space for the family to go adventures. He didn't want to mess with it too much as it would be more of a family car than the rock crawlers he had in the past. Fast forward nearly 25 years and this is how she sits, nearly stock, with minor work done.
Package and Trim
It is the Laredo package with the sport seats, all carpeted cabin, half hard top. It also has the clock on the left side of the steering column. She has the 258 I6 with five speed manual. It does not have A/C or cassette radio. It also has the chrome grill overlay and chrome wheels. Factory auxillary lights also came on this model, however after one broke I removed the second one and installed two round lights to match the headlights and blinkers.
Me
My father passed his baby on to me so I could take it to High School after I got my license. I loved this Jeep, it was like nothing else in town. Enough room for two mountain bikes, gear and a passenger it often saw weekend trips into the back country of Southern Utah. After graduating High School I took it to college and once again, I stood out from all the yuppie college students with their eco-cars and family Suv's.
Mud baths are a favorite of mine, but putting the mud on is a more fun and easier than taking it off.
After years of use and misuse, along with poor maintanance and road salt the floor boards have rusted out and minor surface rust and paint fading are surfacing.
Current:
I have had problems of oil leaks for a long time but recently I have had a major problem of oil leaking onto the exhaust manifold. After investigating and talking with other Jeepers the problem was found to be that the valve cover had cracked. Apparently this is a big problem with the Striaght six engines. I tried replacing the gasket and something went wrong because now it does not run. Several mechanics have told me that I would be better to invest in a rebuilt engine instead of trying to fix what is wrong. So I am waiting for an extra 2-3 grand to have rebuild done.
Future mods:
Replace rusted out floorboards
4-6 inch lift with larger tires
5 Highlighter lights on roll bar
9000lb winch
Reupholster seats
New soundsystem independent from the stock one
Repainted same color with Laredo striping.
