CHARLIE 2

My Dad's 1960 Dodge M-37

This is my Dad's 1960 Dodge M-37, modeled after the one he drove while he was stationed in West Germany. He was in the US Army from 1964 to 1966. The M-37 he drove while he was over there was Charlie 2, (C-2). My Dad purchased this M-37 from a man who lived south of Havana, IL, and had kept it in his garage for many years. He had obtained it from the Havana Rural Fire Department when they had retired it from service. Before that, it had been a vehicle in the Illinios National Guard. We know this because while my Dad and I were preping the vehicle, we found the old stars and numbers that were on it when it had been in service with the National Guard. It's a good old truck, a beast to drive, but nevertheless, a blast to drive. I'll say more and post more pics when I have them!!

These were taken the day of the purchase. It had that snow plow on it, and the red paint from it's fire truck days. Not bad even then. Needed some work, but it would prove worthwhile!

The original Charlie 2 had these racks on the bed, so my dad got some good old oak, and made them to keep the new Charlie 2 like the original. GOOD WORK, DAD!!

Finally, as the weather started to turn as fall came, my Dad thought it was time to put the top on again. Beautiful, isn't it? You can also see the old school military trailer hitch on in the above pictures.

Finally, my Dad was able to get the ribs done, and put the canvas top on the bed of the truck. LOOKS GREAT, DOESN'T IT?!! The guy in some of the above pics is my best friend for the past ten years Brandon Perkins. He just got back from Kosovo, and is on two weeks of leave. FROM DRIVING HUMVEES TO DRIVING AN OLD M-37!! MAJOR CHANGE, HUH, PERK?! Heh, Heh!! Wish I could have seen ya while you were home! Oh well, we'll see eachother again sooner or later!! Well, that's all I have for Charlie 2. When there is more about him, I'll post it!! I hope that you found this page enjoyable, and I can't wait to get another crack at driving this beast!!
