This is my Grand Am as it sits today. About 3 months ago i decided that instead of buying a sports car that I would rather build myself one. I really like the saying "built not bought" so I started looking into what options were available to me. I had recently bought my wife a new car and had this little blue thing from her highschool days and after some research I decided that it would be fun and something different from what everyone is doing around here. So about Three months ago I started work between classes with the hope of something that I could prowl the streets in.

Here is what I started with. A '93 SE Grand Am with a 3.3L V6. I never thought to take pictures of it before I started and found that since I wasn't that good looking I didnt really have any from the past. So this Is all that you get. I had taken some photos of the 454 that I had customized and found a few more shots of the car in them.

As you can see the car was in decient shape just not a jaw dropper. The only real damage to the car has been time and a few hits to the bumpers which I didn't need anyway.

Some of the highlights of the car for me was the V6 that was hidden under the hood and the low cost that I was finding for parts. Many of which I found on the net for a fraction of what they use to cost. The V6 speaks for its self, having more potential for power than most sport compacts could only dream of squeazing out of there 4-bangers.
With it being the middle of summer I decided to start by deviding the car into a three step process. Exterior, intererior, and performance. Since the body protion requires warm temps for the paint it was the place to start. I orderded a bodykit, wheels, lambo hinges, headlights, and a sunroof. I tried to find some coil overs but after some disapointments I just decided to go old school and chopped the origionals.

I dint take me long to get the old body parts off and fit the new ones. When trying to decide which kit to buy I found that I didnt care for the kit that fit a '93 so i bought and modified the one for a '96.

The springs were an interesting adventure. I wound up just hotrod chopping them. I found a website that advised that you just take off half a coil at a time until the desired hight is reached. It works but took some time seeing as ihad to go back and forth quite a bit. The end result is about 2" of space betreen the tire and fender.

I decided to go with 18x8.5 to give it a good grip and a wider stance. Xxr 502's with Nexen N5000 225/40R18's.

If you are planning on doing a kit get a Dremmel. Mine was great and I used it for everything.

This is the first time that I had everyhting about how I wanted it and so I pulled it out side to go for a ride and see if there was anything that I wanted to change. At this point I was just waiting for the new headlights so I could mark all of the fitment changes and tare it all back apart.

I noticed that after a few hours one of my new tires went flat and I couldn't find the leak till I put it in a dunk tank. Turned out that the rim had a pin-hole leak. The company was great though and replaced the rim without any greef.

Finaly the headlights came in and so I started the fabrication to make the '96 kit fit my '93 body a bit smoother and the headlights look at home.

Once the front and rear had been fixed I decided that a rattle can paint job would be quicker and more cost efficient for now. It's neon blue but since I couldn't find it I had to blend it in myself. I still have way to many mods to do so I dont want to risk a new paint job.

Even though it's just a rattle can job it looks great.
I took it out on the town the other night and it drew a lot of attention. The Thrush Welded exaust really brings the V6 to life.

That's all I have for now. Hopefully I get the sunroof in soon and get enought time off so I can weld the lambo hings on.
