jaspercruiser's 1984 Ford Escort

The diesel runs great.  I let it idle to get it up to temp, and the heater core started leaking.  I just did a heater core on my '93.  This one is easier.  I'm glad it blew in the driveway and not on the road somewhere.    10/14/08

Blew the Alternator Belt last night.  Made it home because a diesel does not need the battery.  I ordered all the belts and hoses and I am going to pull the motor and replace the timing belt and the injector pump belt.  The serpentine belt looks like it is on it's last leg.  Heater hoses look bad also.  It needs a radiator cap, does not hold pressure.  I went to replace the thermostat and broke off the first bolt with a quarter drive.  I'll have to heat the housing when I get the motor out.    10/26/08

I am trying to find a bushing for the torque link because the existing one is shot.  Maybe a four wheel drive place wiill have a similar bushing, the original part is long obsolete.  I need this to reinstall the motor.  Everything else is done, all the hoses, belts, wiring, oil and fuel filters, both timing belts.  Hope to get the motor back in soon.  6/14/09

How did it go with pulling the motor to replace the belts, hoses and thermostat?

Hey, thanks for checking out my diesel. It's actually a piece of junk right now--I had to move it from its garage but the brake booster wasn't working and the brakes don't work worth a shit in manual mode. Finally got the vac pump fired up and was able to drive it.. then on the way to the new location it lost engine power and just about stranded me on a BRIDGE: air getting into the fuel lines somehow. Back to the drawing board, eh? You asked about the lower hose... I know I've replaced it, initially with a flex hose, then I seem to remember getting that out and installing a molded hose in its place. I've done so much on that car, though, I might be misremembering. Let me take a peek under it and see if I can recall where I got it, then I'll get back to you.

Oh wow, I LOVE it! Great find! The brakes froze on mine too, it was sediment in the master cylinder that froze up the pedal and I actually wrecked in it about a month ago. Not much damage to my Escort, but it ripped the hell out of a Scion xB. These cars have strong little bumpers! Good on you for addressing the brakes right off the bat--I wish I'd done that on mine. Let me know if you need any help or parts. Have you checked out the diesel Escort message board on yahoo yet? Some very knowledgeable people on there.
