mr_Stang's 1965 Ford Econoline

This is my newest purchase. Its a 65 Econoline Pickup. This one is straight and clean, and had a 302/AOD in it. I bought it from someone who had pulled it apart to rebuild it better (it was an amature build). He stripped it apart and then got distracted with other projects. These are older pictures.

Lots of future plans.,.

Trying to decide which motor to put back into it. I usually lean toward a 351 instead of a 302, but with the limited space in the dog house, that doesn't seem like a great idea. I put a 331 stroker in my fastback, but that seemed like overkill for such a light vehicle (besides, it will be more of a cruiser than a racer).

I have a spare mild 302 laying around that I could use, or a roller cam 302 that could really use a rebuild. I may use one of those.

I still haven't decided on a paint scheme yet either, and it is going to need paint because parts of it are stripped down to remove whatever bondo that was in it. Interested in any suggestions. On one hand, I like the black/white look, but I am leaning towards something brighter more custom looking.

Plans are to shave door handles, keep the body as smooth as posible.

Finally, I am seriously considering adding an air bag suspension so I can drop it to the ground. I haven't done a lot of research yet, but I spent some time under the truck and I think switching to a 4 link suspension and adding some air bags would be pretty doable. I am not sure how many issues I will have getting clearance to lower it enough to put the rockers on the ground, but I sure would like to get close.

any suggestions appreciated

To the lay that truck on the ground you would have to notch the frame in the back and do a lot of sheetmetal in the front to get the wheels to tuck and not rub on anything how you do the floor in the bed is up to you but its all a really long process and a constant expense in the end i wouldnt do it on something you need to be reliable or an everyday driver

i know alot about air ride and a econoline definitally isnt the easyest truck to bag for one the front suspension is almost unusable but it has been done once dont know how but he did it but anyways u need the frame to hit the ground the same time the body does and if not ur just gunna roll the rockers in and bash them in and what not basically they fold with all that weight on there so either swap the frame or build some kind of plate to stop it and the wheel humps in the front need to be reworked unless u use a tinny tire and also the rear bed needs to be cut and bigger humps and a notch cover so basically its a big hard proccess im just trying to help you out its very very hard to do on a truck like that even a s10 is some work to get right but ur truck looks really cool i really like the muscle look

Looks very clean. I've owned a couple of these but none in such good shape. I agree with the Mustang theme.

Why don't you go with a Mustang theme... colors and stripes from a vintage stang? Yellow with a black stripe down the face and through the bed? Or white with blue? Boss scheme? That would seem to suit you!
