 Cleaning transmission

Today I removed the clutch (I won't be using one), clutch assembly and flywheel.  I also cleaned up the filthy transmission.  It was literally black on the inside and none too clean on the outside.  It looks pretty good now.

One point on going clutchless:  Remember there won't be a gas engine constantly in idle, so shifting without a clutch is almost as easy as shifting when your car is turned off.  This car's transmission shifted very easily without the clutch when I test drove it, so it will be a good car to go clutchless.

Another point to mention here:  make sure you keep, separate and label all your important bolts, brackets, etc...  You will need some of these later so you don't want to lose them.  Also, you never know what you might need when putting in all your electric components, so you might as well keep that main pile o' parts until you're finished!

 Cleaning motor compartment

Now that there won't be an oil-laden, grease-covered ICE in the front of the car anymore, I went ahead and cleaned up the newly christened motor compartment as well.  Like the rest of the car, the paint in here is in very good shape.  Well, now that you can see under the layer of grime anyway.  Now I'm just waiting on the motor to get here so I can start working on the adapter.

This car is truly amazing. I have seen electric cars like this but you took the time to go through the steps. I really wish I could afford to do a car like this some day. I really hope this makes you feel good coming from a 18 year old. All I can say is keep on going!!!

What did you end up fabricating as far as the tachometer?

Well done Patrick! I think you are on the crest of a rising trend, basically recycling older cars to be fossil fuel free. Eventually, the aftermarket will respond with cheaper, more powerful batteries and quicker "dump" chargers to extend range. But it's going to take the efforts of a lot of enthusiasts like yourself before the technology becomes affordable. Thanks for your contribution to a cleaner more peaceful world.

To answer a couple of questions: Lettering came from: http://chromeemblems.com/ I chose lead acid batteries because they were the best option for the money I had to spend on batteries.
