Update (10/10/09):
I have listed this car for sale on www.diyelectriccar.com and www.evalbum.com . The reason I listed it is so I can do another conversion. I'd really love to do a conversion of a 1964 Rambler Classic! We'll see how things pan out.
Once again, thanks for following along and there are some new videos, including the local news story with lead-ins. Stay tuned....
Patrick Roth's Electric Vehicle
The future is here!
This is the story of OHMer. Ohmer is a 1998 Ford zx2 that has been converted to an all-electric vehicle. It was done in my spare time, in my garage and with my own investment. Green is more than just recycling; it is finding solutions to sustainable living. Like all Americans, I love my car. I love the freedom and convenience it brings, but I hate the fact that I am burning fossil fuels to drive my car. I finally decided to do something about that.
In order to have my cake and eat it too, I decided I could and would do what many others before me have done. I would take an existing gas-powered car and convert it to run entirely on electricity. And since I pay a premium on my electric bill to have all my power generated by green sources, this means I can do all my daily errands with a clear conscience. So, no more oil in the block, no more gasoline in the tank. No more coolant in the radiator. Heck, no more radiator!
On the following pages, there is a pretty complete story of an EV conversion. You'll find pictures, videos, tips, costs and lots of information on how pretty much anyone with basic mechanical ability (not necessarily experience) can convert a regular car to an EV. Enjoy!
