Ever since the Miata came out when I was in high school in 1989, I've always wanted one. The look, the tiny engine, the weight (or lack of it thereoff) and the sheer genius of engineering were all the right ingredients that shaped my passion for simple, lightweight motoring. A Corvette can be brutal. A Ferrari may be beautiful. A Porsche is for poseurs. But to have this, the MX-5, is to just want to get on with it.
Here are some shots I took on the way home on Wednesday, 1 April 2009:
These are some quick shots with my mobile phone. More to come later.
I took these two quick shots on the day I took delivery of the car. Bad lighting, bad pose, but this was really all very impromptu.
I took these while I was forced to stop during a sandstorm on the way from Jeddah to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, earlier this week. It got pretty nasty out there.
I fitted these wheels after - as I had expected - the stock ones were damaged by potholes and ruts. I'm running Potenza RE050 run-flats, 225/50R16, on these cheap Chinese-made 16x7 rims, which are a bit too heavy, but nothing serious. The OE tires were Potenza RE050A run-flats, 205/45R17.
Life can get really funny sometimes!
Below are some more recent pictures. For those of you wondering why there are wheels from a Mazda 6, I've ran into some wheel/tire problems recently. No big deal.
