DIY: COBB AP V2 Mount with On/Off Switch
I got the idea from a fellow member on http://www.clubwrx.net . I figured that I had this $700 dollar AP lying around, only getting used when need be, basically just wasting away. So I decided I would make a mount for it.
But here's the catch.
As most of the WRX owners know, when the AP is connected to the OBDII port, it WILL NOT shut off until you physically unplug it from the OBDII port or the AP, even with the car completely turned off. To loop-hole this problem, I moddified the USB cable that the AP uses to run through a SPST swtich that I picked up from Radio Shack. I'm not going to go into detail right now on how I did it, but I'll probably make a How-To if demand is high enough >D
On to the pictures.
Here is the switch I bought from Radio Shack. When flipped in the "On" position, an LED will make the entire switch glow green (to match the interior).
The blank with the hole cut into it.
The blank and the switch rigged up together for a test fit.
Quick pic of part of the USB that I gutted.

The Finished Product:
I mounted the AP up where it is easier to glance down at while driving.
The mount itself. It's just a universal cell phone cradle that I picked up from Wal-Mart for ~$6.00. It's rock solid, fits like a glove, and it also comes with a sticky pad that you can mount where ever you want. I chose the suction cup just because I don't want anything TOO permanent quite yet.
I mounted the switch above the side-view mirror control. I picked this spot because I have plans for the other blanks next to the steering wheel plus it gives a little more spice to the center console :p And, if I ever change my mind, I made the wires longer than need be so I could easily relocate it to another blank in the car.
I also ran the USB down into the dash so it looks clean and professional.
