This is my 61 dub ive been rebuilding since October of 07 , 2nd owner.  Its not done yet,  I will finish this completely how i want it by 2010 !!!

This is about what we had to start out with. It had fiberglass rear baja fenders, stock front fenders, no engine and the tranny was a mystery.  It sat in a field for 20-24 years. Basicly a peice of shit , but the pan was not rusted but in 1 place !! In great shape for 200.00 .

After replaceing all brake hardware, shoes, cylinders, master cylinder,  brake lines , fuel lines , engine install, tranny flush, axel seals, and minor floor pan welding, along with take the windows out ect................  I started stripping it down to bare metal. This baby had 4 complete paint jobs , and alot of half ass body work done to it. But a high speed buffer and 80 grit stripping pads by eastwood , it flew off.   As well as i cut out the front side windows to fit the new 1 pc window kits ....

After stripping 1 side of it , i cleaned and epoxyed immedatly to prevent rusting. Rust will develpe in the matter of minutes after hitting bare metal. So i would strip clean , then use a wax grease remover and epoxy quicly !!

Stripping it more and more .......  long process with 4 paint jobs on it. To strip this whole car took about 20 hours of work, in the matter of 4 days. Its summer time so its HOT , cant work more than a few hours a day.

fter i got it all epoxyed, i went through the whole car and circled all the body work with a acrylic > waterbased >paint marker. Useing black epoxy was very wise, i could see every little dig under my lights. After about a week of body work i had it ready to go. We built a paint booth at my friend Johns, a mechanic for over 40 years. Hes helped me with all the engine and brake work as well. Im only a amature painter, but really im only a airbrusher ...... LOL !!

After a final sand , and post wipe down , i put 2 more coats of epoxy over all the body work to help seal it from moisture, then contuied to 3 coats primer, then final sand and clean.

The paint and products i used where all House of Kolor. Blackbase coat , white basecoat , and i used a ppg Flamboyiant Blue crystal pearl in some HOK sg-150, and layed that on top on my black base coat. But not on my white, or it will look like dust is in the paint.

Ordered all new trim peices ,  frnt hood badge, and my model also came with a front hood emblem, all new interior panels , headliner , carpet kits , stinger exhaust with headers , clips , bulbs , brackets , head light assymblies,  new ignition , starter, running boards , lowered spindels , 1pc window kit ,  and finally all new door, hood , deck lid , extrior interior seals.  So far ive put a few thousand in it, i saved alot of money doing the paint and bodywork myself , and also swapping work with a buddy of mine for installing engine , brakes , all the mechanical and electrical work ect..... he has a 67 dub so it worked out nice !!!

For the most part , im pretty happy so far how its comming along. This is the first car ive ever painted. Im really an airbrusher , ive done lots of bikes and a few car and truck peices. But never a whole car.  Theres some imperfections but nothing the final wet sand wont cure. Right now the clear is curing for about 1 year. In March of 09 i will take it apart again , and start the front and rear murals, and the blue gold leafing to match the pearl. Along with new wheels and tires < on order already > and the lowering kit will come in May. Stayed tuned for much more , we will be cutting a moon roof in and all new interior , as well as thinking about bagging it in 2010.

Close up of the blue flamboyiant pearl , stuff is really amazing , it only sparkles where direct sun hits it ,  not liek flake where it will dance even in low light. Ill post more pics when my wheels and tires get here. Get her in the sun and snap some photos.

Awesome car, great job on the vintage paint scheme. Not sure if I like the air brushwork I think it steals away the beauty of the paint job but awesome work none the less
