Grant Kustoms Taillight Fillers

11-17-08 I am 100% happy with the taillight fillers that I received from Grant Kustoms. They are on the pricey side for being two sheets of metal, but what you save in installation and the less bondo you have to use, they are definately worth the extra cash! Both sides have been welded in place, awaiting Fiberglass re-inforced body filler and some minor straightening work. I will have the taillights completely shaved by the end of the week!

Here shows all of the tack welds that have to be done to reduce warpage. This pic was taken prior to sanding. You can also see the washer that was welded to the plate as a mounting tab for the clamp on the welder.

And there you have it... Mr. Fab at work again with the welder.
I still have some minor structural welding to do on the seam of the filler plates before any body filler will be installed, but for the most part the installation was easy. We did have to "adjust" the shape of the fillers in some spots with a grinder, but Grant Kustoms did a great job with this one!

Second stage of Bondo after the fiberglass reinforced filler. Use the fiberglass (Kevlar, as it actually is) filler after the initial weld to fill pin holes and for general shape.

Here are a couple more progress pics of the Taillight shaving process and a random one of the Blazer with it's "Rat Rod" hood. I removed the tow hooks from the front as well. I think it looks cleaner without them. I should have primer sprayed on the taillights, tomorrow after I finish up the final sanding.

11-20-08 Finally finished up the taillight shave job after four solid days of work. This has been the most difficult job that I have attempted and performed to this point. Not so much that it was hard, it just took alot of finishing work. Getting the panels rounded to perfection was definately the hardest part. I easily completed the welding on the first day, but the last three days were spent laying the body filler and sanding and shaping the corners.
