This is my father's 70 XKE that he bought in '95. We stripped the whole car down to the shell and built it back up the restored condition. The body had hardly any rust but, almost every panel was in poor condition dent-wise. It took many hours to get the bodywork to this condition and I sprayed it with PPG Deltron 2000 basecoat/clearcoat. Wetsanding followed with 1200, 1500, 2000 paper and compound with 3m perfect it 3000. The color is not the factory color (ugly brown/green), but a BMW avisblau metallic that was on the 2001 325s. The interior came out awesome and was redone by a guy named Tony D.. The engine was rebuilt by a shop in Huntington that was recommended by the Jag shop. He did a great job as the engine runs real good and is so smooth.
I had a great time restoring it with my dad. He did alot of the grunt work on the smaller parts, stripping them down , repairing, and refinishing them, while I was busy with the body work. He did a real good job with all the mechanical things and repainting components. The chrome was rechromed by NEL metal restoration in Phili, Pa. . We couldn't be happier with the outcome.
It was a project that I will always cherish because of the time spent with DAD. He drives it as much as he can and we just took it to Englishtown NJ to Raceway park to see my friend race his care this weekend (9/31/08).
I hope he takes it next season when I race the Charger there again. I hope you enjoy these few pictures
