wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

All stripped down for some minor metal repair
& mod to the small grill inset

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

Came with X-mas Lights & Garland :)
You so know I am gonna put it on for the holidays!

8 OCT 09

Replaced Fuel pump with a quality rebuild & shall see how she goes.

Scored a few parts

*Bush Bar (in need of paint/powdercoat
*Ladder
*Pair of Headlights (almost new)
*Spare tyre w/soft cover
*Spare Tyre mount

Can't hardly wait until she is out buzzing the roads again.

~C~

-------------------------------------------------------

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

Left switches & wheel original so as to give it
a bit of a rustic original look. Will look better
once a coat of interior protectant is applied.

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

Black REALLY brings out the woodgrain

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

Dash ripped out & change of colour :)

20 JUL 09
-Truck stalls when warm & I am almost at wits end
*Replaced fuel filter
*Replaced Crank Position Sensor
*Fuel pump whizzs & sounds good
*no vacuum leaks
*coolant fine
* ? ? ?
Any help please contact me as I want to drive my baby again soo

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

Tore out the access panel to work on freeing
up the Diff Lock shifter linkage.
Going to replace rivets that held the panel with
clips & screws ;)

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

Old Crankcase Position Sensor & busted shield
Unfortunately,,, that did not correct the stalling out prob *LeSigh*

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

Fuel Pump topside is not looking so good,
plan on replacing of the lines & top parts,
maybe even a rebuild kit :)

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

Someone cut the red for some reason
(please Email me if you know where this goes,
and why it be cut)

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

White "jumper" wire from control module to a relay?
Again, why? (email me if u know)

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

Empty socket (anyone know what it is for?)

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

Two wires that go nowhere (anyone tell me)

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

New parts in ! BUT she still stalls out & won't restart
until she cools a bit. *scratches head*
*PCV>? *Fuel Relay? *Fuel Pump? *???

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

LOL while my truck was down we borrowed a
smart car. Ummm ya no tricks here I just
superimposed the smart into the back of my truck.
Minus the wheels it would just fit :O
I love my truck! Roomy & one sweet smooth ride.

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

The Door hinge broke long before I purchased her
The owner just stopped using the rear door.
Update: I replaced them with new ones I painted black to indicate
to those who had the same prob, mine too were broken once :)

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

Sun roof water leaks into centre console, then down into shifter,

shorts out interlock solenoid, then winter comes & the water filled shifter housing (1" deep)
freezes into a nice solid block of ice.
Preventing the truck from shifting. Tow truck driver clamped on & jerked the shifter in
attempt to get it into neutral. Bending the shifter & linkage. Solenoid was shorted as well
but not as bad as the block of ice. Warmer day came & as I uncovered the pond I drained it,
pulled it & did a lil straightening, lube & cut off the solenoid interlock engaging pin (thank you Dremel) & she works like new! (ps $200 for a new shifter complete, $169 for the solenoid) I shall wait on that for now. ;)

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

MORE snow falls on her *LeSigh* ;)
Mother nature tells me to take a lil brake :)

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

Into the shop to begin the head gasket job :)

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

Another example of owner neglect *shakes head* terrible

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

Better to replace now while she's apart, then to take a chance down the road!

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

Everything looked good, no apparent blown gasket,,,Hmmfff

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

Valves did leak, so had the things checked for cracks & valve jobs,

aluminum coated & good to go!

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

Pretty much a standard job, went in well .

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

Hmmm a lil more to fix up. Good thing I like to get into everything.
The other two mount studs were rusting & going to go. Not a pleasant image
of the spare bouncing down the road behind my Landy causing injury or worse.

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

Sorry I had to pull the gross tan interior, it was soaked from the leak
& dirty stained anyway ;) Plans are black & red :)

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

Upper engine work complete & she started up fine & purrred!
Man I do good work! (unlicenced mechanic)

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

Sun roof leaks can be easily avoided by simple TLC
Fold the seal back in ! poof no more water leaking in. Simple.

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

Floor didn't rust out which I am happy about.

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

I love this shot! When she is all done & better than stock it will go over all kinds
of terrain in all kinds of weather :)

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

Some things I will do out in the drive . Emergency repairs yes yes

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

Inventive temp cover

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

A leak caused by a simple outter seal.

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

Only a few parts to replace. Note the collaped PCV hose
Hmmmm yes THAT could have been the culprit for it running crappy & spewing smoke...
What do you think? (comments)

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

As she sat out front ready for me to take her away
$1,000.oo cash ! THATS RIGHT !

Even the tow truck driver couldn't believe it, called it
"The deal of the Century" hehe

Update: even doing the head gasket & various repairs, STILL a good deal ;)

Sweet Deal Once I saw her blow a little white smoke ;)
Hmmmm "looks like the motor is blown" I say "So ummm you still want it?" he says
"Well sure I can fix almost anything so sure why not!" I answer & pay the man :)
A little work (head gasket) & I have the basis for a pretty sweet truck!

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

What's that? 171K on her, nice :)

Update: When I started it again after the Head Gasket job,
you could so tell the milage was low :)

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

Cosmetically not the best but hey she's a Landy! Good enough for me!

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

Dash & interior colour is a little plain & gross tan.
Dark interior will go so much better!

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

The underside has just a few rusty spots, not too bad for sitting almost a year (8months)

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

GEMs Engine 4.0L V8i good good
Update: the cylinder sleeves were solid so no worries there ;)

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

Surface rust on the roof, easily cured with some touching up.

wicked1z's 1998 Land Rover Discovery

This is what I hope for her to end up looking somewhat like!

She will evolve & become as wicked as her namesake ;)

Have you changed or cleaned your idler air control valve? Thats what caused my D1 to stall when warm. Just cleaning mine off did the trick, but common issue on D1 so alot of them get replaced.
