BigBlockBear's 1968 Mercury Cougar BigBlockBear's 1968 Mercury Cougar

Here are a few pictures of my 1968 1/2 Cougar XR-7 GT. It's an original R-code 428 Cobra Jet with factory ram air induction. It still has its original drive train.

The 428 CJ came out late in the 1968 model year and was offered in the Shelby GT500KR, the Mustang GT, and the Mercury Cougar. Not many people ordered 1968 Cougars with the 428 Cobra Jet, so the Cougar is by far the rarest of the '68s.

Mercury only built 244 Cougars in 1968 with the Cobra Jet engine. Of those, only 70 were XR-7's and only 13 GT's were built. When you break it down to colors, this car is a one-of-one built.

Factory options (per the Marti report) include XR-7 package, leather seats, full instrumentation, competition suspension, Grand Touring package, power front disc brakes, traction loc rear end, front seat head rests, am radio, automatic transmission, and the 428.

It was restored before I got it and spent many years as a trailer queen. The previous couple owners basically let it sit in a warehouse unused and ignored for several years. I've been fixing mechanical issues since I bought it so I can drive it and enjoy it on the weekends.
