Often called the best-handling front wheel drive car ever produced, the 1991 Elan remains a rarity. A total of only 546 were imported to the North America. Of these only 37 were produced in the British Racing Green color shown here. The Elan is powered by a turbocharged 1.6L Isuzu engine producing 167 HP in standard trim. This car has been signifcantly breathed upon to make more power and get it to the ground.
British Racing Green looks best on overcast days, surrounded with lush foliage. In short, in Britain. Southern California rarely has opportunites to catch the car in the best light, but I managed it in this photo.
Other than the filter-on-a-stick and BOV, it's difficult to tell the engine wears a Garrett GT2650R ball-bearing turbo boosting to 16PSI instead of the stock IHI unit. The previous owner worked for Garrett, so the installation is truly clean and I am indebted to him for his fine work. A Quaife LSD keeps the power on the ground (mostly.) It will easily spin the wheels in 2nd - I think the PZero Nero tires aren't sticky enough.
I plan to replace the FOAST with an air box plumbed to cold air at some point and to replace the BOV with one vented to the airbox. I'm not big on the boy-racer whoosh . Anyone want to trade a TurboXS type RBV-H for a type H34?
