This is my ride in powder snow in Iceland.
My jeep is a 91Wrangler YJ. He has 38" tyres used for winter drives in the snow.
My modification policy is upgrade on failure. When the rear leaf spring broke he got springs in the rear. When the front leaf spring broke he got springs in the front. He got 4.56 gear ratio. No body lift. Airconditioner has been changed into an airpump. Front locking is an ARB air locker, rear is the factory limited slip disk lock. Air intake has been moved into the back of the hood and can be moved into the cabin when crossing very deep rivers. It's been needed I have had little icebergs floating on the hood of the car while crossing a small stream which had flooded in snow.
Everybody kept telling me that this is to weak and that will brake right away. Then I met some old jeepers that told me the upgrade on failiure methood. If you brake it once you where beeing a brute. If you brake it 2 times you are unlucky. If you brake it for the third time it needs an upgrade. Based on that I have not messed with anything else than the suspension. The rest has at the most broken 2 times and thats the driver side front axel. And yes I was beeing a brute both of the time they broke. First stuck in a frozen river trying to get out. The second time jumping upp a ridge coming out of a river.
The extra gas is kept in the front of the car so it will have the same weight on the front axel as the rear axel. By doing this it steers better and makes better tracks for the rear wheel to follow into.
Sometimes you float completely.
And sometimes the 38" are just not enaugh.
