Under the Hood
It was in need of a new air filter when I got it so I got a K&N. and I hated how the airbox lid had a whole the size of a door knob that is supposed to supply the air to this fire breather so...I modified it with a hacksaw blade. Now it has the whole panel to suck air with. It makes a slightly throaty sound now too, plus it gives her more pep and 2mpg. Which puts my average at 20mpg.
The GM 3.1L is one of the best engines GM ever made. This one runs like a champ. An oil change and a little Seafoam and she runs even better. It's got a nice little rumble at idle now but I plan to fix that ;-) The factory muffler has two dime sized holes in it so I will need a new one before it gets inspected in Feb. '09. So I am gettin a 40 series Flowmaster and leaving it at that. I have heard them on V6 Corseys before and they sound good. I was going to get a CherryBomb glasspack but I am afraid it will sound like poop on a V6.
Air horns were a task on this one. I had very little room to work with so it ammounted to a jumbled mess of horns and zipties. But I didn't even have to drill holes to mount my dual compressor bracket .There are three smaller horns for one compressor and two large horns for the other. I ran the wireing along some factory wires under the hood then throught the door jam, along the bottom of the dash then I put a small switch on the center console. Trust me, these bad boys are loud as poop.
But where are they? ;-)
I got a strut bar off a Pontiac Sunbird in the junkyard for $5. it actually makes a big difference in keeping the front from slopping all over the place. I didn't think it would change anything but it did.
I painted the intake manifold flat black.
I decided on the glasspack. here it is along side the old stock rusting out muffler. one of these days I will post a sound clip. It actually sounds very good. not very loud but deeper and it sounds best at low rpms just putting through town
A buddy of mine gave me these intake parts so I made my own intake. I had to drill a hole for the tube from the valve cover but other than that it just dropped right in. For now I just have a rag over the end but I am going to move the battery/tray back a bit and make room for a cone filter.
It makes one heck of a sucking noise at pretty much any rpm and I can really feel that it flows air better than the stock box and tube.
