July 23, 2008 concluded a frantic hustle of money, usually $500 a month, sometimes more, every month. $15,000 later.... whee! July 26th, I took it home - that picture above is my first time driving it.
My dad, when this started, said "You want THIS car."
I said, "I know, dad."
"No, no, you want THIS DeLorean. I know the guy, and if I know anything about him he'll have at least doubled the factory horsepower rating, maybe more."
"..... SWEET!"
So I drove it. I felt like afterwards I should have rolled over, said "Mmmm, that was nice." and smoked a cigarette.
The whole engine has been rebuilt from the ground up, and although it's the original block, there's not much that's not modified under the engine cover. It is now an odd-fire 3.0L PRV with a 16lb flywheel, a freeflowing exhaust with headers, a less restrictive air intake, throttle body work, upgraded fuel delivery, very low emissions (28 mpg and it burns cleaner than most Ds anyway..) And if THAT isn't enough, it has a 60-horse nitrous oxide kit installed. (I'm not using it until Christmas 2008 at the EARLIEST; he's going to give me a "performance driving" tutorial and show me how to use the system safely.)
It has ALL of the original dealer paperwork (Goodyear and Craig warranties, DMC warranties of various types, pre-delivery checklist, window sticker, all the manuals, the leather valet case for the manual, all the registration receipts, all the DMC owner transfer notice cards, the letter from JZD congratulating the new owner...... literally EVERYTHING.) The first INSTALLMENT of stuff is visible to the right.
As for where I got it... I may be the single luckiest owner ever. Not only was the car local, but I got to see it on my way to and from school. Transporting it home took all of $75 for a flatbed, and fifteen minutes of time. (The tow truck driver snapped about ten pictures of the car with his phone.)
I am the happiest man on Earth.
