haridev's 1971 Volkswagen Beetle

thanks for viewing my humble VW1200. i have owned this car for the past 3 years. i began restoring it when i was a mere novice to cars. i took time and learnt quick. VWs are amazing cars. i tried to keep it to a rather british racer like theme. i found this theme cheap and easy. compared to many vws around, mine looks rather dull. however i kept this car as functional as i could. in order to do this i was forced to move away from stock. hence a few advances were added. such as recoiling seat belts. a sony player (not in pics), larger seats, electronic ignition and carpets for the interior.

these are the pics of what my car looked like when i got her. as you can see there was hardly any rust on the body. but the dull pain looked sad. however the pans were rusted out and needed replacement. the engine indicated a fire one upon a time and this caused it to have surface rust all over.

the pans were replaced and the cream paint was added. also crystal headlamps replaced the dull older units. fog lamps were added to aid driving in bad weather. the indicators were replaced so that smaller vehicles would be able to know when im turning.

initially, the steering box was replaced with a new shifter bushing. then, the engine had been repainted by me. a CDI and air filter was added and this turned the driving experience around. the engine itself has never been overhauled/rebuilt since new. it runs like a dream though. also the tar board was replaced to allow for better sound insulation. the muffler and j-tubes were replaced and this made the performance and sound much better. the shifter had the addition of a short shift kit and a new, larger shifter knob. this made shifting (soooooo) much better.

the interior had much work done to it. the warped door boards were replaced. the already well padded, larger mazda 626 seats were retained but were re-covered. a full carpet was added. the player was replaced with a sony unit (not in picture). the window winders were replaced as well. the speedometer had been restored (not replaced) and now functions smoothly.the indicator switch on the steering was replaced as well. recoiling seat belts were added as well.

i managed to find NOS gravel guards and mud flaps in indonesia. this enhanced the british theme i was inspired by when working on the car. the finger guards were added for the door handles and the hood handle too. eye lids were added to the head-lamps as well. this picture was taken in a bugfest where 400 bugs showed up.

You have a Bug too? The combination old Honda and old Bug is the best in the world :) Looking good!
