Our First Year Together
Hey everybody. I bought my celica just over a year ago now. it was my first car that i drove when i got my lisence and i fell in love with it immediately. Although admittedly underpowered (fortunately it had the stock 20R swapped out in favour of a 22R)it does have remarkable balance, direct steering feel (thanks in part to no power steering), and remarkably light weight. The real reason i bought the car in the first place was the lovely body style. the previous owner had equiped it with the wide BFG's and the 14 inch aluminum wheels that reside under the fenders to this day. I hope to soon replace them with some nice 15 inch wheels with an offset that won't cause the tires to rub on the fenders. the previous owner also did the 22R engine swap.
After driving my car happily for almost a month without any misshaps, i had my first problem. I found out the hard way that some people are assholes when they're drunk and my car sustained some dents and paint chips in what had been an almost perfectly maintained factory paint job. Then about two weeks later, wet roads, inexperience, and a dog on the road, all ganged up on me and my car ended up backwards on the other side of the road with the rear bumper planted in a set of steel mailboxes. ouch! need i say more? On the positive side those two experiences were probably the kick in the pants that i needed to go and get my car's paint and body fully restored and then some.
I decided to have the paint and body work done at TC Valley Collision in Courtenay BC because they are well known as about the best body shop in the comox valley. At the shop, all the body panels were removed and sanded down to bare metal to remove any possibility of future rust problems. The bumpers were both sent away to Vancouver to be restamped and rechromed to repair the damage from the mailboxes. Back at TC Valley they were also busy removing the ugly vinyl trim on the doors and fenders and repairing the dings that the car sustained from beer bottles and rocks. After all the body work and primering was completed TC Valley had to custom mix a batch of paint to try and replicate the factory orange/red colour of my Celica. In the end this is what i got back from them.
My freshly painted punkin complemented by some rhododendrons blooming in the background.
Only days after the completion of the paint job was my high school graduation. My school has a tradition of having a classic car parade that goes through town on the way to the grad ceremony and then renting the Powell River ferry in the evening for a sweet grad cruise with lots of games and laser tag and cool shit like that. Needless to say my graduation was kick ass! Anyhow, im gonna shut up and let the pictures speak a thousand words. (make that four thousand)
this is my best friend Jer and the mustang he drove to grad. picture was taken on our way home the next morning
