AMP RACK/HATCH AREA BUILD
Following are some pics of the amp rack in the hatch. It holds the Kenwood KOS-V1000, which is essentially the "brain" of the A/V system. It is controlled via the 7" Kenwood touchscreen monitor up front. The amp is a Kenwood Excelon KAC-X522 putting out 165 watts to each of it's 2 channels. I wanted to be consistent with equipment, which is why I didn't go with a higher-end amplifier to complement the Dynaudio separates. That being said, the Kenwood has performed admirably.
This is the early stage of the amp rack (a mess).
A little more organized here. Center section covered in black diamond plate.
Another angle. Room left on each side for the Dynaudio x-overs (for when I go 3-way).
MDF cover. The cover can be removed and the amp rack lifted to access the spare tire.
Covered in matching carpet. Steel mesh protects the equipment and allows air flow for cooling. Front trim piece was made from 1/8" hardboard so it could be bent to shape and attached.
Nothing flashy, but a solid install. This will probably evolve into something slightly more showy, but not less functional. This amp rack will easily support the weight of a person crawling around on it.
Here's the last modification: Acura leather shift knob. Not sure why an Acura doesn't already come with a leather knob instead of crappy rubber.......
