89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla This is my 1989 Corolla AE92 SKD

It's an SKD so its basically a JDM manufactured to export specs . It used to be 040 Super White . Initially i wanted to just respray the car with Nippon acrylic mixed to Toyota's 040 Super White , but the salesman at the paint shop sweet talked me into using Urethane Paint.

After scraping, rust-proofing and epoxy primering the car, I was hooked! Since its an SKD I decided to go all JDM with it and give it a different color and make it look as clean as possible.

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Here it is, my corolla GT-S "long gauge" instrument cluster .

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

View from the passenger side. As you can see i got all the indicator lights to work. Indicator lights from left to right; Door, Seatbelt, Catalytic Converter, Battery, Oil, Transmission Oil Temp, TEMS, Defogger, Handbrake and Check Engine

  89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Here it is being test fitted into the dashboard.

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

A photo shortly after i wired in the harness loom.

  89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

A pic of the old GL instrument cluster and the stripped interior.

The old Instrument Cluster had White-on-White TRD gauge faces .

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

...and a 10K tach.

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

An internal part of the GT-S cluster - "TEMS ECT" . yes its wired in and functional!

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

LHD chequred Corolla Levin seats . You can also clearly see the MOMO steering wheel and hub, and the Custom Short Throw shifter (2.5" throws!), there's that JDM cupholder too.

A pic of the OEM JDM AM/FM knob radio for the AE92 and a JDM cupholder being test fitted.

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

The cupholder fits well but i'll be replacing it with the a JDM OEM AE92 cupholder .

  89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Right after the scraping and rustproofing stage comes the primering.

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Everything i could take off with a wrench i took off.

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Everything came off...

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

...even the fuel flap. hehehe...

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

I was able to find a JDM OEM 3 point stabilizer bar so i put it in.

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

And straight from Malaysia - a TRD front stabilizer bar

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Nearing the end of the project.

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Initial D inspired. I painted the bonnet black just to see if it would look good. well it does but i decided to go with the body color anyway.

  89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Test fitting everything including the spare grill that i cut out to give the car a sporty look. i decided to go witht the JDM grill though

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Looking good, now for a few more layers of top coat.

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Put the interior back in.

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Ready for show? Not yet. She needs some buffing to look really nice.

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Everything back together and waiting to be buffed!

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

The camera can't quite capture the way the color changes.

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

You can see that the color turns white, silver, two shades of light blue (a darker and lighter one), yellow, and apple green.

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Here's what she looks like from the front. The JDM Tilting License Plate Holder adds a nice touch. Plus its functional since the JDM Levin Bumper can only accomodate a Japanese license plate.

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Painted, top coated and buffed rims!

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Buffed and showing off the rare low registration Green Japanese License Plate ! What a beauty!

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Look at that shine!

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Is the paint still wet? nope, its got a wet look finish! Those LHD Levin Seats look real nice too!

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Shining under the sunlight.
Hasn't been waxed yet on this photo. just rubbed down and buffed.

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

After the rubdown and shining like a star.

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

At this angle you can see some of the color shifting.

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

So much light reflection that parts of the car seem white!

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Mirror finish on a light colored vehicle? Apparently its possible.

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Completely flat, no bumps and waves. Can turn half an image into a whole.

  89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

A look into the engine bay .
Gotta update this pic though. Got new goodies.

See Below for the updated pic.

  89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

TRD and Bilstein suspension compnents up front...

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

My two amps, custom mounted and ventilated by a couple of custom mounted high speed cooling fans.

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

My 2 Kicker Comp 12s make a lot of bass. But i want a Solobaric !

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

A pic of the maiden voyage to SBMA after the repaint. Real shiny.

New JDM Goodies!

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

JDM Power Side Mirror Control Switch with Retract Button and a JDM Foglight Switch.

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

JAF Badge to add a little more JDM  flair to the car.

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

JDM is the way to go!

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Another angle of the car with the JAF badge .

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Since we opened the hood already, lets look in it.
Still clean. There's that Velocitystack i was talking about earlier, a new Rising Rate Fuel Pump ...

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

...and there's my K&N Breather.

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

16 Bulb Dome Light LED in Super White trim. Looks really nice at night.

  89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

A photo of my tall Quickshift . Photo includes the JDM Cupholder, JDM Undertray and Pioneer Universal Remote Control

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

On First Gear the tip of the shift knob lines up at seven inches...

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

On Second Gear the tip lines up at nine point five inches!
2.5 inch throws!

    89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

On Third Gear...

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

...and on Fourth Gear.

  89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

JDM Cupholder for Corolla AE92s.
What it looks like closed.

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Here's what it looks like opened. Nice.

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

JDM Undertray . tsk, tsk, tsk. dirty floor mat.

"Sinong sumakay na hindi nag pagpag ng sapatos?!! @#$%@#!!!!"

Right side JDM Black Wiper-on, Wiper-intermittent, Sprinkler and Defogger Switches .

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Yes they do work!

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Here's what it looks like with the rest of the dash.

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Left side single JDM Black Defogger Switch .

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Here's what it looks like with the rest of the dash on its side.

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

My MOMO Corse Steering Wheel.

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

The whole dashboard. Fully loaded with all the JDM goodies i could get my hands on.
Now, for that elusive climate control.....

  89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

My 4AGroup Membership Sticker.

  89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

In case you were wondering where my Japanese License Plate went, there it is on the backboard.

Look at the car shine!

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Seven days outside the garage, very dusty and without wax.
Yet she shines.
You can see the thick JDM Door Mouldings and the chrome lined JDM Door Handles.

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Dropped by one time to find this!

 89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Here she is ranked Number 1 in the Toyota Corolla All Years category

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

Here she is ranked as the Number 1 Toyota!

I couldn't  believe it myself but there it is!

89SKD's 1989 Toyota Corolla

That low chassis number can only mean one thing...

JDM!

Thanks for dropping by!
